I am in the football section of this site, right? Football is played in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, right? Okay.

I am outraged at all of you who can't figure out how to make your post outside of a quote box.

I am in the football section of this site, right? Football is played in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, right? Okay. Sure. But take a second away from your rage, and re-read the post that brought all the Hawks fans to this site. It clearly mentions the Summit League. Specifically, UND's lack of success in it since joining. I'll make it easier for you: ...This is a school that hasn't won a single championship that I can recall in any sport since entering the Summit/MVFC. In fact, they've been bottom dwellers in several... Clearly he (and most of us) had forgotten about your three-way shared 2020 Spring MVFC Championship. Although, this Wikipedia page lists SDSU (5-1) and Missouri State (5-1) as "co-champions", with UND (4-1) finishing third. Strange, right? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_North_Dakota_Fighting_Hawks_football_teamAnd your question that I was responding to was pretty open-ended, you have to admit: Please, don’t act like you guys wouldn’t take credit for that. When’s the last time you guys have won any sort of conference championship? I will hang up and listen. But, if you want the answer to how many conference titles we have in football? The answer is 10. 10 NCC championships, the last one in 2005 (shared with UND). North Dakota has more, but that's not what you asked. *pats self on back for quoting correctly*

So rather than the senseless banter, and D$&% measuring with different titles, how about talking about the actual game? How is the pass D and run D this year? Tommy has been able to find a pretty consistent passing game all season so far, which has opened up the run game quite a bit. Especially with our transfer RB from UNI, Hoosman. Is USD more run heavy this year on O, or is that changing more with the new QB? I agree. Your boy geausioux comes on and his first post is inflammatory. I acted no better. Starting over. I’ve been impressed with how UND has played at times this year. Last week was their best in my opinion. Regarding the Coyotes, ever since the QB change there’s a noticeable difference. He manages games well, accurate with passes. That helps set up our run game. We are not a dominant offensive team but good enough to stay in most games. Our defense has been good except for Youngstown game. Not sure what went wrong out there but needless to say it wasn’t good. The offense played well enough to stay in the game. We are wounded but last week our new guys performed admirably. Put pressure on the QB all day. If you win this game Saturday I think it will be your running game. I think we’ll be competitive Saturday and give us about a 1 in 3 chance to win.

Even though I’ve been a critic of our coaching, I hope we go out there this weekend and completely ruin the fighting somethings playoff chances. I don’t dislike many fan bases but they rank up there.
(P.S. Remember when they thought they were gonna waltz into the “slummit” and MVFC and win it every year cause it was so inferior to the Big Sky?)
I do think based on our recent play we can be competitive and win if we manage the clock effectively and adapt the game plan as needed. This isn’t going to be a gimme at all so let’s just hope the coaching staff is listing the importance of ensuring SD remains the superior U.

Man, I don't remember anyone ever thinking they would waltz in and dominate the MVFC. I remember a lot of talk and concern about how we were recruiting during to move because we knew we needed a much bigger and tougher O-Line, which I think we have finally improved; certainly better than several years ago. We came into The Valley right in the middle of the Bison dominating and the Bunnies always being tough; I don't think there were any false hopes there. As for the Summit, I'm not a basketball guy and I remember one or two guys on the message board that though the Summit was weak, but that may have also been when our team was put together a little better. UND basketball hasn't been able to recruit AND retain guys for a while. A few nice years when we had Quinton Hooker and Geno Crandall, but apart from that, I don't know who is smack talkin around basketball.

UND is actually claiming a conference title for a season where they had 1 less win than two other teams? Woof.

UND is actually claiming a conference title for a season where they had 1 less win than two other teams? Woof. USD would do the exact same, so lets just stop the nonsense. You can't help that certain team decide at the end of the season that since they suck they are going to forfeit the rest of their season.

I can tell you that if USD claimed THAT as a conference title, I would not acknowledge it. I'm a fan but I'm not blind.

Gratuitous long post with trophy pictures incoming..... ...almost there... ... keep scrolling.... 1976 - The Coyote Football team wins back the Sitting Bull Trophy in Grand Forks after a 14-7 game. Some terrible suggestions for a new USD/UND trophy..... The "Dakota Access Pipeline" Trohpy? No explanation needed. Plus, the players could drink champagne from it. The "Nehamiah G. Ordway" Trohpy?
(he was a corrupt and hated Dakota Territory Governor that moved the Capitol from Yankton to Bismark with political help from the Northern Pacific Railway, even though the population was mostly in the South Dakota portion of the territory) Nehemiah G. Ordway
Super nerdy pick. The "Fighting Flickertail" Trophy? This is the mascot UND probably should have chosen instead of the generic "Hawks". The state literally has the official nickname "The Flickertail State", just as SD used to be known as the "Coyote State" at one time. Bonus points for rodents comprising the bulk of the natural diet of coyotes. BTW: Flickertails are large ground squirrels that look and behave very similarly to prairie dogs, in case you were wondering. The "Strategic Air Command" Trophy? For many years the three air bases in the Dakotas have been, (along with tons of missile silos) a critical part of America's nuclear deterrent strategy. As post-cold-war military cutbacks have created competition between these bases for survival, I think the B-52 Stratofortress, (based in the past in both states) would be a fitting symbol. Well, either that or..... The "Minuteman ICBM" Trophy?Could be advertised as: "The Largest and most phallic football trophy in the Dakotas" in an escalating arms race... Well, that's all I have for now. Minuteman “tallest” right!!!!! Don’t you mean “quickest”

An honest question for our neighbors to the north… you cool with “Fighting Hawks”?

An honest question for our neighbors to the north… you cool with “Fighting Hawks”? It is fine. Meh. People are done with the name stuff it seems. More worried about the programs again, which is how it should be.

It's a terrible nickname. I understand why you can't go back to Sioux, which befuddles me after watching the Central Michigan Chippewas play last night, but there has to be something better than Fighting Hawks. Lame. Ditch it and try again.
