Meet the Yotes:Elizabeth Juhnke continues to lead the nation in kills and kills per set. Her match-high 22 kills against Oral Roberts on Saturday boosted her career total to 1,927, making her USD's all-time career kills leader. Freshman Madi Woodin put up a career-high 46 assists in her seventh start for the Coyotes on Saturday. Woodin has taken the reins at setter as Brooklyn Schram continues to recover from an injury. Middle blocker Madison Harms recorder her 500th career block on Saturday, making her just the second Coyote to reach that milestone. She is the school record holder in the rally scoring era in solo blocks, assisted blocks, and total blocks. Libero Lolo Weideman picked up her second defensive player of the week honor of the season last week. She continues to lead the league in digs per set.

Well that sucked. Bison win 3-1, and keep control over their destiny for the 2-seed.

Appears they struggle without Schram.

Appears they struggle without Schram. Maybe? But they have now played almost half the season without her. And we lost in Fargo with her. I wonder if the Bison simply wanted it more.

I like the change to Sealock. It adds a different dimension to the team. It will be interesting to see if that remains.

It’s the matchup they present That would make sense given the result (only two losses in-conference). Would also explain the trouble we seem to have with SDSU, maybe? Can you give any specifics about what NDSU does that gives us fits?

It’s the matchup they present That would make sense given the result (only two losses in-conference). Would also explain the trouble we seem to have with SDSU, maybe? Can you give any specifics about what NDSU does that gives us fits? NDSU is the only team in the league that has (2) very good outside hitters and a left side that’s comparable to Adams. That presents major challenges to opposing teams in blocking or getting touches. It’s very tough to defend. Think if why we are successful and win the league year after year. It’s we’ve always had good outside hitters. In addition Adams is a very good opposite that hits left handed. Plus we have (2) middles that are really good. Tough to defend us. In order to successfully defend NDSU, our middles have to be able get to the outside ( right or left ) and present a double block. If you count on a successful night of blocking going one on one, you’ll get beat 99 out of 100 times every match. There are teams in the Summit that pass much better than we do, although I’d say we’ve improved dramatically throughout the year. As huge of an asset Juhnke is in the front, earlier this year she was a liability in the back. That has improved a thousand percent. Plus Lolos play has gotten so much better that she is now playing at a level our past liberos played at. Losing to NDSU twice is fine with me as long as we still win the league bits an eye opener for our ladies. Makes them focus all that much harder. Should we win the tournament and make the NCAA tourney, we will be a dangerous team. Our ability to set is compromised right now. She’s getting better but we are limited. That being said, she’s done a great job for being thrust in the lineup as a backup and a freshman. There’s one issue that will always be a factor till she graduates in 4 years that there’s nothing she can do anything about. That issue is she’s 5’6”. That presents a problem blocking. The ideal setter is 5’10” to 6’ and an jump. There’s probably a finite number of those available to recruit. Leanne has been masterful at bringing this team together. There were lots of questions heading into the season. No more. And Coach Runde is as good of an assistant coach as any teams going to get, not only at this level but any school in the country. Great teaching skills and a super X’s and O’s coach. We are a blessed fan base.

FYI... if you factor in only the sets that Woodin actually played as a setter she would be #2 in the conference in assists per set. She is holding her own and will continue to get better with experience.
