I noticed after the game she had an ice pack wrap on but was walking on it with no crutches so that looked better. Also earlier she was hit by a LB tackle while setting a screen in the back court so she definitely sacrificed her body for the team today. Hope everything heals quickly!
First Q was frustrating for the D with the Billikins taking everything to the hoop and that took too long to figure out but later the zone helped and many of the dribble drives were taken away for the rest of the game.
I really like that we can play 9-10 players with very little drop-off at either end of the floor. Really speaks well of recruiting success and some good pickups from the portal!
Certainly, was another good learning experience and a very good road win!

A couple things I’ve noticed during our 3 D1 games that I’m sure will correct itself as the season goes but make me nervous for conference play are turnovers, and we get into deficits and have to claw back out.
We’ve had years where we went into deficits many times and had to fight back so it’s not unusual. But right now our defense isn’t at a level to really help us claw out against good competition. Again I think this will correct itself but if it doesn’t we might be in for a bumpy ride as Bradley and St. Louis aren’t necessarily top tier teams.

It's going to take a little bit for everyone to get on the same page here. But I am really pleased with what we've seen so far. At the end of the day, winners win. And this team has the mindset that they are going to win. Probably because the classes before them did too. Even when it's not pretty, they find a way and that's really all I had hoped for this point in the season.

This is a solid team that will only get better as the season progresses. Sure, there will be some bumps in the road, but I think everyone is just so used to us being up 25-5 after the first quarter that they stress when we're not. Should be a fun team to watch develop this year and for the future which looks very bright.

Duffney needs to play more in my opinion. She saved their asses in the first half with some timely buckets or else that was a double-figure deficit.
Happy to see Guebert hit a big shot and it was BIG, particularly considering how much she's struggled with her shot early ... but from an outsider's perspective I have no idea why she's leading the team in minutes played. I'd be giving more of her minutes to NAA and Duffney and maybe even Carson as the season moves on.
That first half was awful and against any kind of good team that game is probably over after 20 minutes, maybe even 10. A lot to clean up on both ends.
Grange's injury could be a real killer. I like her game. I really thought I'd never see a sweeter stroke in a Yote uniform than Chloe Lamb's but I'm not sure Grange's isn't prettier. And she's smart and controlled. That's a tough loss.
This team's got a long way to go.

Throws it away like it's her job. Carson is extremely green and has shown that when in the game. I think Guebert is getting the minutes because of her experience, and she has played well at times. I do think as the season progresses though you'll see pressure on her starting spot from Duffney. Next question ot answer is who is going to start in place of Grange? She'll be missed.

If that wasn't a blown ACL I'll be flabbergasted.

I watch Duffney out there and she is difficult to describe. She just looks to me like a liability but yet good things have happened while she is on the court the last couple games. Her defensive posturing looks like she is going to get blown away off the dribble whenever driven on. Ball handling looks suspect and some passes questionable. However, a good share of the players right now are fitting those same descriptions. I have to say that I was completely surprised with her play in the St Louis game because I hadn't seen anything to that point that made me think she was going to be game changer. I like pleasant surprises!!

She does have as many turnovers this season as Larkins had in the first quarter of the last game. Which is a lot, I guess?

OK, I think we need to inject some facts into this discussion. I just looked at turnovers per 30 minutes (TO per game x 30 / min per game) That, of course, is a statistic I just made up. For a better (and real) stat, we can also look at Assist/Turnover ratio. Here are the numbers: player | A/TO | TO/30 min | Hanson | * | 0.00 | Guebert | 5.00 | 0.39 | Carson | 3.00 | 0.97 | Larkins | 1.67 | 3.21 | Avila-Ambrosi | 1.60 | 1.42 | Duffney | 1.00 | 1.33 | Ugofsky | 0.88 | 3.00 | Hempe | 0.86 | 1.74 | Haydon | 0.75 | 4.44 | Grange | 0.71 | 1.72 | Demers | 0.25 | 3.15 |
* Hanson has zero turnovers, so A/TO cannot be calculated. She has 8 assists. So I'd say that we have some turnover issues on this team that need to get fixed, but NAA isn't a significant part of it. I'd also say that Hanson, Guebert and Carson appear to have some of the surest hands on the team. As far as guards go, we seem to have some great ball handlers/passers with OK shooting (Hanson, Guebert, Carson), and great shooters with OK ball handling/passing (Grange, Hempe, Larkins) And NAA is above average at both. If there are turnover machines on the team it would be All of our forwards except Duffney. Not surprised about Demers, but Ugofsky needs to lock it in. Haydon is a liability.

Stats are going to be a little wonky with Bellevue and Midland in there five games in.
I'm looking forward to the Fordham game as the Rams look like they must be fairly salty with that Maryland result. Should be a good measuring stick game. Hopefully Santa Clara and Northern Colorado are confidence boosters because that Drake tilt is going to be tougher than hell.

Still, as much as Guebert has handled the ball, that's a very good A/TO number. Probably why they trust her with it. And as many turnovers as Larkins has, she still has an A/TO over 1.50, which is decent. Some of the passing issues could be blamed as much on the recipient as the passer. So there's that. We just are not in a rhythm yet, I think. Lots to work on. Talent is there, though.

NAA may have had a couple of bad turnovers that stick out, but as shown above it hasn't been a huge problem this year and she averaged about one turnover per game at her prior stop. I can see how her size could cause a turnover problem against length, but I think she's at least a rotation player. Her frame might be slight but she's pretty strong and has active hands. If we're going to look at numbers, we should also note that she has four blocked shots (which LEADS the team) and is 7-10 from downtown.
Again, I can see her size being a problem against some teams, especially against that team up north. AJ will waste no time putting her in the post defensively. But that's just one problem the Yotes will have against that team.
