Ehhhhh disagree. This shouldn't have been a close game. Coyotes didn't deserve to win at all. I expected a few conference games like this after the fiasco in the non-con. All that being said, as soon as the Yotes got close there was a series of exceptionally bad calls that all went against the coyotes. Again, that's not why they lost. I'm just pointing out what a poor job this crew did. On another note, Western as an institution continues to be an embarrassment to the SL. I've said it several times before, but how can a D1 school not figure out how to stream a game better than that? It's essentially a laggy Facetime with radio overlay. Do better.

I must’ve missed the exceptionally bad calls.

As much as it pains me to say it we just aren’t that good at any area of the game. The two home games against KC and ORU are the outliers of the season so far and I don’t expect a game like that anytime soon.
This is an unpopular opinion, but I will die on this hill, there’s no cohesion on the coaching staff at this time and they’re just winging it. This is evident when Guebert voiced during a timeout against UST “what are we doing?”. These players played, practiced, and built a culture with the greatest USD teams ever and yet it looks like a d2 or d3 team this year. Until our coaching staff gets locked in our players are playing blindly.

The homer glasses are thick sometimes.

A few calls in the last 3 minutes sort of dictated how the end of the game had to be played. If they went the other way I'm still not sure we would have won but it would have played out differently. That's my attempt at being unbiased. Play better in the other 37 minutes and those calls don't matter. There's the lesson for the team.
Gravina is an underrated coach. That school really has no business competing given their lack of commitment to athletics. He always has them show up as a respectable opponent. He's a good dude by all accounts too.

I was admittedly overly optimistic about what we still had on the roster prior to this season. I think the talent will still develop, but the firepower we had the last few years just isn't there at this point. We're seeing a first time head coach learning as she goes a bit, but I wouldn't say there's no cohesion on the staff. You're overthinking what Guebert said a couple days ago. They wasn't a shot at the staff for lack of planning or anything, she was fired up and wanted the team to pull their heads out. This was the kind of outcome I predicted after the Drake and Creighton games. If they played those two games like they did against ORU and KC, they probably win. The effort we saw today was similar to what we saw against Drake. The kind of effort that loses you games to bad SL teams.

Playing like you did against ORU or KC against Drake or Creighton is hard to do because Drake and Creighton are a lot better teams.

No but that’s what I mean, this team does not play with desire (guebs frustration) I didn’t necessarily mean the coaches don’t have the knowledge but for whatever reason this team does not have the same desire/passion whatever you wanna label it as. But that is also a reflection of the coaching staff. I give only certain players a skill development pass the entire team doesn’t get one for that, they do get one to gel and I think they are.

Didn't get to watch any of the game yesterday, so I watched the last 3-4 minutes to see what the fuss was about. The officials took away 3 or 4 possessions (depending on your take on Hansen's 5th foul) that were just missed calls. That came at a time when WIU was rattled and the Yotes were making a comeback.
Not the reason for the loss, but certainly not a non-factor either.
