Showdown Week!
Predictions: Jacks win 74-71 (+3) Massey Yotes win 68-67 (-1) Warren Nolan Vegas? Sagarin? (will update with day-of predictions)
Unlike on the women's side, neither team is heavily favored. I have no idea what to expect in this game. Hoping for a win, of course. A close game is the most likely outcome, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it isn't. Matchups in the paint and how well we are shooting from the arc will probably go a long way in determining the outcome.

Hopefully, the home crowd is energized and rowdy as usual. Also, I have to imagine it’s been a long time since both teams have come into this game with a losing record (identical records to be exact).

Weekly presser with Coach Hendo:

Hendo quotes:
health updates: ...Luke and Charlie won't be playing. We don't know if Luke will be playing the rest of the season. It might be a medical redshirt situation. With Charlie we're really hopeful that we are gonna get him back, maybe at the beginning of February...
On young players stepping up: Zeke's certainly the one that's stepped to the forefront, especially on offense. Also, he's our leading defensive rebounder. When he does that, we're able to play with more pace...
On Mohrs: I've been happy with how he's progressing... you can see him gaining confidence every time he steps on the floor. The game is starting to slow down for him...
On developing defensively: ...The pace that we played with last year is not a recipe for success with this group. Especially being banged up right now. We need to limit possessions a bit, and slow things down a bit. Because we put too much pressure on our defense... the concern right now is rebounding. We've gotta do a better job on the glass....
On offensive inconsistency: ... I think it's a little bit because of the flow. We're playing slower... and we need to establish the paint presence better, a stronger and more consistent one... that's where it all starts for us.
On the rivalry with USD: ... They're very well-coached. They've been around. It's gonna be exciting. Our guys are pumped up. It really means something to these guys.
On USD: ...They're a very balanced team, offensively, they're gonna double-team in the post. We've gotta make sure we're a good passing team, connected as a team... defensively, we have to pick and choose what we take away, because you can't take everything.

The scoreboard makes this game seem closer than it actually is, unfortunately. If keeping up with state in terms of competitive ability is the goal, we still have a long ways to go.

This state team is nothing special. We're making them look really good. What does that make us? Ponder that for a while. I can't believe how inept we look on offense at times. We also look really flat. How can that happen in this game?

It's just not our night. Can't make a basket to save our lives. Taking some bad looks for no reason. I wonder if the switch back to Peterson has caused some (short term) confusion. Big rivalry game compounded on distractions. Simply not our night.
Sucks to lose, but I won't be surprised at all if we beat this team in Brookings and/or Sioux Falls.

We aren't going to win many games where AJ has zero points half way through the second half. Not blaming him. He got in early foul trouble again. The whole group just looks out of sorts.

I agree with Yotes - this game looks like an outlier. They were getting good looks the entire game, but nothing was falling - even at the rim. I think Peterson said something like 5 for 18 in the paint. Early foul trouble shook KPH and AJ, but everyone else was just off.

Only had one real thought. This would have been more understandable if SDSU was good. But they made a fairly middling team look very good. Just really disappointing.
