To be honest, the earlier you start to build a relationship with a player, the more they will follow your program and see the personality of your team, rather than just the most recent wins and losses records. Hannah had coaches interested in her as early as eighth grade, her first year in AAU - they try to build a rapport with a player through her AAU coach. You can win a players heart by having her connect emotionally with players on the team, following them, cheering for them… because she feels valued by that team. This is not so much with the very top players, because they already get or know they will get a lot of attention. But this is more for those hidden gem players.

I get that this is the way it works in today's recruiting world, but stroking the egos of middle school kids? What happens when the kids who are early bloomers and the top age group players are getting passed up by the late bloomers and coaches subsequently start to lose interest? What happens to that relationship then? |
