AJ has entered the portal as a grad transfer. Doesn't surprise me. I hope we can have him back but won't be mad if he plays elsewhere.

AJ has been a great Yote and I wish him well if he does not return. Have to admire his determination to come back after a horrific injury. I'll always wonder about how good his career as a Yote could have been if he hadn't been injured. He came back to be a solid contributor this year but was clearly (and understandably) not the same as before. I hope he continues to progress in his recovery and plays well somewhere, if not here.

I honestly think he would have been an all-time great. It's a shame it went down like it did. I'm not sure what he he is looking for but I don't think he'll draw power 5 interest given his injury history. I hope he finds what he is looking for. I'm sure he would be welcome to come back too.

He was not the same player last year after the injury. Sadly, it played on him mentally. I think the aftermath of it weighed on his mind, affecting his shooting confidence as well as confidence in just his overall play on the court. I agree, barring a resurrection of his former abilities, he's not a power 5 player. I hope he finds contentment somewhere as it's obvious he's searching for something. Academics does not appear to be what his concerns are. Hopefully, he might discover that he's happiest right where he is.

I think I remember hearing that the reason he chose Augie initially was that he wanted to play for championships. This was despite having D-1 offers. When he came back to USD it had more to do with Augie's dalliance with Division-1 aspirations, and he wanted no part of the transition period that would happen (from what I understand).
So maybe he wants to be a role-player on a team that regularly goes to the big dance? Who knows. Best of luck, either way. You only have these opportunities to play for so long, so I hope he is able to get the most of it.

I thought he took steps forward toward the end of the year and was more aggressive but he lost a lot of lateral mobility and general quickness. If a team is looking for a team first guy who is a hell of a shooter he'll fit right in. What I noticed when we played the P5 teams was that an athletic guard could effectively neutralize him. I don't think that would have been case a few years ago. As a fan, I still love the dude. He was everything we needed and wanted him to be. If he ends up going somewhere and plays in the tourney someday I will be a fan of that team.

Kutcher into the portal. No real surprise there. He was buried on the depth chart and probably didn't fit what peterson was looking for.

Well, it looks like we will now have 5 open scholarships (unless any portal players change their minds).
Time for some good news in the Portal!

Joel Scott from Division II Black Hills State has entered the portal with one year to play.
Had a monster career at BHSU, with over 2400 career points. 23 ppg and 9.6 rpg this past year. Over 20 ppg each of the last 3 years after putting up 17 ppg as a freshman. I assume he wants a shot to play at a higher level. Don't know how he translates to Division I but he's had a heck of a career. 6'7" 225.
With lots of spots to fill, will the Yotes be interested?

Scott's older brother was All-Pac 12 at Colorado, who I think was one of three of his older brothers who played D-I. He could definitely help the Yotes. Always struck me as a real grounded kid who understood he could go be a pretty anonymous D-I contributor or go somewhere and be a D-II legend.

With his success at the D2 level, I would think he could at least be a solid contributor. Would add some much needed experience. Kid has played a lot of ball and looks to be physically mature for sure.
