Thanks for that, I added it to the (now archival) "Bring Back the Jug" thread. I also typed out the article in case the link is ever gone. Nice picture of the jug in that article. It would be nice to know the circumstances under which we lost track of that trophy. From the sound of it, it was a well-known thing from 1927 to at least 1963... maybe longer. Also nice to see that the "pants" tradition was there right alongside the trophy. |

I like the history of a trophy like the little brown jug even if it was forgotten for a while. Just need to convince SDSU to not acknowledge it and then lie about that when they lose.

If the reasoning for trying to "bury" something so unique and historical is for whatever the schools get for having a "corporate-sponsored" all-sports rivalry......
I guess I just don't get it.
There's no reason we can't have both an all-sports manufactured, sponsored, award/trophy, as well as a revived historical football traveling trophy. We can literally have both. Hell, find an additional corporate sponsor who wants to pay for a replica to be made for the on-field exchange.
I mean, does the athletic department really think an all-sports award is a replacement for a football travelling trophy? Are we going to exchange a "two-points toward the Interstate Award" trophy on the football field? Asinine.

SDSU isn't pulling that jug out because that would be an admission that USD is their real rival. They have that manufactured Dakota Market trophy with NDSU and like to claim the Bison as their true rival, which they are not. They are a rival, but not the true rival.
Same as how UND is a rival of ours but SDSU is our true rival. Similarly, we had an awesome trophy game with UND in the Sitting Bull Trophy.
SDSU likes to downplay USD, but the fact is it hurts them more to lose to us than anybody else.

I have some friends and in laws that are state fans and generally they're nice people but most of them are bonkers when it comes to athletics. All their teams are the greatest, their players are all going to be in the NBA, WNBA, etc.
They were so happy to win the FCS and rightfully so and I congratulated them but after continued boasting, I asked how many championships have the Bison won?
They got real quiet real fast.
Humble is real hard for them or to win with grace.
