The issue is not with understanding the announcer. It’s the horrible music and video audio. It sounded better before which isn’t saying much. Must be a bit of a buzzkill for recruits.

I wouldn't think that a stadium sound system is high on the list of priorities for any recruit. I don't even notice or really pay attention to the quality of the sound system at our games, but that's just me.

They’d overlook it if we could guarantee consistent winning, but our big selling point is to play in a renovated facility where the music can’t be enjoyed.

I don't think I've ever paid any attention to the sound system, either as a player, coach, or fan. It's a non-issue for me.

I get people not caring about the sound system because they are focused on the game, but I would argue that is partially why attendance is struggling. You want to make the Dome filled out more on a consistent basis? You have to improve fan experience overall. Not everyone is there for the football game (I am, but obviously not everyone is). Got to find a way to make the overall experience better for the fans whether that is through promotions, entertainment before and during the games (specifically talking during media timeouts). There simply needs to be more of an experience for people who want to bring a family to make it enjoyable for everyone. The sound system is a huge part of that to allow for announcements to be heard and actually understood. Not sure if that is needed through a different sound system or instead more sound proofing on the walls to prevent echoes. I've been to Fargo several times and they don't seem to have a huge issue with it, so it isn't domes inherently, just needs attention to it.

USD brings in an average of 20 recruits a game. first glance things look and appear really cool. Graphics, replay, pics are second rate compared to others. The PA and sound system is muffled and hardly crystal clear. As much as some think its not a big deal in my opinion I think it is. Domes need special acoustics. we need an upgrade. If you don’t think it affects recruiting you’re wrong

This thread reminds me of a hockey arena where I occasionally attend a game. During announcements such as the national anthem, I can understand the public address announcer. They have a guy announcing that gets all hyped up and screams (okay, maybe not literally, but you get my point, I hope) during within game play. I can't understand hardly a word of it. I'm not a sound guy, but I wonder if they set all of those knobs and slider things on the sound equipment with him using his within game voice if it could be better. Or, maybe they chose their announcer poorly. I recall a football game that I attended many years ago. During the dance team performance the tuba section decided to have a bit of a contest among themselves. It ruined the dance performance. If I would have been the dance captain I would have been tempted to take the dancers to the band room the following week during marching band practice for a synchronized dump in the chairs in the low brass section. Maybe they did. I don't remember the fun things that were done well that day. I just remember thinking that the overall game day production was $h!tty. It really is important to get everything right, and the worst part of the production should be no worse than unremarkable.

The die hard fan base comes for the game. I suppose a better sound system and overall game day experience might attract more casual fans, but in Vermillion SD with a limited budget, how much can we really do? And its hard for me to imagine a bunch of people saying "Hey, there's a great half time show in Vermillion this weekend, let's go!"
Personally, 9-2 is what I care about. Doing that every year will do more for attendance than anything else.

I don’t think I’ve ever recall sitting there thinking about the sound system- but that’s just me. Usually either tuned into the game or making small talk between plays. Would think there’s bigger fish to fry? Do we really need a dome club and 2 different iterations of “coyote landing” or can we repurpose one of those spaces for say a student in game tailgate?

I think some of you are lumping things together that are not actually tied together. If you only want die-hard football fans in the stands, we may as well get rid of the bid screen and sound all together. (But then you can't complain if attendance is low, even if the team is winning.) It is not an unreasonable expectation to be able to hear the official's explanation of a call or the PA announcer or even the entertainment during the longer-and-longer TV timeouts. And if you have kids that are the age of recruits, you already know they care about the stereo in a car more than if it is reliable or gets them where they need to go, so it should be obvious the sound system matters to the kids during pregame and in-game.

Should we bring down our boom boxes to assist?

The PA and sound system is muffled and hardly crystal clear. As much as some think its not a big deal in my opinion I think it is. Domes need special acoustics. we need an upgrade. If you don’t think it affects recruiting you’re wrong Here's the thing. People like you will always find something to complain about. Just to be clear: Yes I agree, improvements need to be made to our sound system. I've actually dealt with it and run it in the past. And even I'm not sure what can be done besides completely replacing it (again). Maybe sound panels around the dome to eliminate some of the echo? Maybe replacing some of the equipment (e.g., mics, cables)? Bringing in a sound engineer to figure out some solutions could maybe help. I don't really know. That's not really what I'm referring to. What I am referring to is your other point. Graphics, replay and pics are "second rate?" Athletics does a great job making graphics, and I know how hard it can be getting photos to look nice on a videoboard. And replay has been complained about on here in the past, and I know they have addressed it by showing them more frequently. If you're going to complain about something so trivial like graphics on the videoboard or instant replay, maybe give some feedback about why you think that and what you'd like to see changed. Instead of just, "This sucks, other schools do it better." Constructive criticism is great, saying things just to say things isn't. As fans, we can be better.

I actually thought the sound was better yesterday. Not sure what would have changed.
