Looking at team stats for just conferene play, we are pretty bad in most offensive categories, but we are very good at shooting efficiency defense and defensive rebounding. We are still very low in scoring defense, which tells me that our opponents are getting a lot of possessions. We are turning the ball over too much and not getting enough turnovers. So let's see what the trend lines are vs our conference opponents' averages... Opponent's turnovers: opponent | average TO | vs USD | diff | NDSU | 11.6 | 7 | -4.6 | UNO | 8.6 | 6 | -2.6 | ORU | 10.2 | 7 | -3.2 | UST | 8.5 | 6 | -2.5 | SDSU | 10.9 | 10 | -0.9 | Den | 10.7 | 11* | +0.3 | KC | 11.9 | 10 | -1.9 | UND | 9.4 | 3 | -6.4 | SDSU | 10.9 | 8 | -2.9 | Den | 10.7 | 7* | -3.7 |
|
| average | -2.8 |
* = OT game I don't see improvement in this stat. Summit teams are turning the ball over 3 less times than average when they play us. That's both adding three possessions to them and subtracting three from us, so a swing of 6 possessions. On average, we are giving them 6 points because of this.

Yote turnovers: opponent | average TO's forced | vs USD | diff | NDSU | 10.0 | 12 | +2.0 | UNO | 10.0 | 13 | +3.0 | ORU | 9.5 | 18 | +8.5 | UST | 12.3 | 13 | +0.7 | SDSU | 11.3 | 15 | +3.7 | Den | 10.9 | 17* | +6.1 | KC | 12.1 | 14 | +1.9 | UND | 10.4 | 6 | -4.4 | SDSU | 11.3 | 13 | +1.7 | Den | 10.9 | 6* | -4.9 |
|
| average | +1.8 |
* = OT game Here's one where there has been a lot of improvement! The Yotes average +1.8 Turnovers vs what Summit teams force (conference season), but in the last 4 games we average -1.4 turnovers! Average the two chards together, and you get a net +3 extra possessions to the opponent, or spotting them 3 points. If we keep improving there, we will win more games.

Pretty good effort but the inability to force turnovers (as Kiyoat mentioned) hurt them. They shot it with efficiency but got beat badly in the possession game. I think they got two stops in the last 7.5 minutes. Can't win that way on the road.
Part of it is the lack of a really good team on the men's side, but even though the women are much better than the men relative to their opponents, I decided a week ago that if any of the Coyote teams are capable of making a run in the tournament, it's the men. Tonight's results don't dissuade me of that opinion.

Did you see the women? They absolutely sucked tonite against a 1 win team. They’re going nowhere with that effort

Upset the 1 seed on Saturday night. Get a day off on Sunday. Be rested up and pull another upset on Monday night. Play for all the marbles on Tuesday.

As the late Danny Olson would say, that would be living a charmed life.

I tell you what. Going 11-14 from 3 in the 1st half sure helps offensively.

I love the shooting percentage and the numbers being spread around. I would really love to see some defense in the second half unless we plan on continuing to shoot 65% from the field.

Well, have we secured our spot in the play in game yet?

I'm not sure I've ever seen a team go on the road and shoot 56% from the floor and 50% from three in the first game and then 57% from the floor and 61% from three in the second game and LOSE BOTH GAMES. Again, getting killed in the possession game, particularly in turnovers, was the key.
They "forced" ten turnovers total in these two games. Wow.
I will say that they have been executing quite well offensively lately. I can see the beginning of a pretty good team, but probably not this year.

Pretty crazy Stat line for a losing team but we're nothing if not consistent. Nearly all of our conference losses have been for the same reason.
