If this is the front end of a home and home I hope the buyout is set at about $500,000. The Griz are notorious for buying out of their contracts and I hope we have learned our lesson by now with these deals. If true it's a home and home it's a great get. Looking at the 2012 schedule we have @northwestern, Colgate, and montana along with 8 MVFC games. Wow, that is not an easy schedule especially considering all the seniors we lose. Could be in for a long season.

Montana's President is a former USD administrator. Not sure if that'll help on whether Montana honors a home/home contract (I understand it's not known at this time if the deal is home/home).
Montana tries to schedule 6 home games because it can make so much money -- the stadium is full for every home game. So, it jockeys around looking for the sixth game and in the past Montana hasn't hesitated to buyout a travel game to trade for a home game.

I don't think it's wise to be playing Montana in addition to what is already a very tough schedule. Next year playoff eligiblity is finally here but this schedule is simply going to be too tough
UNI NDSU Northwestern Montana
Holy Coyote!!!
this is definately gonna be the toughest schedule a U of South Dakota team has ever played. 6-5 would be a VERY respectable record with that lineup.

That website has been linked on here before, and we've all doubted USD is playing at Montana.
I can't see David Sayler agreeing to this contract, or allowing it to happen if he got there after it was signed, after what happened with Lamar. Or for that matter, McNeese State and Central Arkansas.
Montana is known for not making return games, and I doubt USD would schedule this game, knowing full well the Grizzlies will simply buy out of the contract down the road.

I would take a deal if the buyout is 1.5 Mil. If they are actually willing to pay that kind of cash, which they likely wouldn't we could buy in a good FCS game in place of Montana and still have about a mil left to help the athletic department.

... this schedule is simply going to be too tough... But this is where we want to be. No more NAIA and DII games. As long as we have a fair share of these OOC FCS games at home, this is good. I agree, 6-5 would be a nice season. The outcome of todays game against the Sioux will set the tone for my optimism for next year.

CF - $1.5 M is not realistic. However, I do think we could be getting more for playing FBS teams. The $400K or so is nothing compared to the millions those big time schools make on games. Hope Sayler can convince other FCS schools to barter for more FBS dollars at the next FCS AD conference.

Anyone think USD signed the contract assuming Montana WOULD buy out the contract?
Just a thought.

I asked our AD about this and he said there is not a game scheduled with Montana next year. He would be willing to sign a home and home with a million dollar buy out.
