I just wanted to start a thread to pay respect to Meierkort and to thank him for all the good things he did for the University. I am not actually jumping up and down today as much as some people would like to think. I have been just a little somber about the news today as well. I was 100% in favor of the decision but I do recognise what he did for USD football.
If anyone has any memories to share regarding Ed's time in Vermillion shoot them out. I had some very good times watching football. For me it's a tie for my two biggest memories. The first one was the epic win over Nebraska-Omaha in 2005. I believe the Yotes won that game 59-7. The first play of the game was a bomb touchdown to Gearman and it was all downhill from there for the Mavs. That is the most amazed I have ever been at a USD football game.
Also was my last minute decision to attend the game at Minnesota. I remember needing to hit myself upside the head a few times while I was sitting in TCF bank stadium. My favorite FBS team was playing my favorite team period so I was getting choked up a bit just sitting in the atmosphere of a home Gophers game since I had not done that before. I was totally for USD of course but it was a great overall atmosphere to experience. I couldn't believe that USD wasn't not only just winning but they were crushing Minnesota on the offensive end. NDSU and SDSU didn't have nearly the explosion that the Yotes showed in that game.
When Meierkort was hired I was completely on board with the hire and think the hire was a good one. He brought excitement to Vermillion and set the stage for the next journey we are about to go on. This is a results oriented business and that is exactly what cost Ed his job. He will end up somewhere where he is happy. USD gave him the opportunity to be a D1 coach so there is some consolation there.
Ed put alot of good assistants in other places where they are successfull today. That is to his credit. He was always a good interview and I never for one moment didn't think he was a good person or a good embassador for USD football.
Ed will be missed. So long and thanks for what you brought.

Notkiotees post was deleted for obvious reason.
The guy finally gives Ed some credit and you guys go off. Seriously already.
Ed did a lot of good for USD. He hasn't made them a football school and made the Coyotes relevant. The program was definitely better off with him at the helm and he was a complete change from John Austin, who didn't care if the team won or not.

Obviously I thought the program should go in a different direction and was adiment about it. That doesn't not mean I didn't appreciate what he did for USD football. This was a genuine topic, not a joke. I just thought it was time to change directions because I didn't see the program going forward any longer.

Here is a quote by Coyote Fan on the Sioux message board right after the game. And you're telling us to lay off him #1Coyote Fan? That's BS!
"Nice win for the Sioux. The Coyotes probably got the Gophers coach fired last year. Hopefully this year you have gotten the USD coach fired. That would be the 2nd best way for the series to end if the Yotes couldn't win the game."

Since the Yotes didn't win the game my second hope was absolutely to go in a new direction. That is not old news. The Sioux actually did the Yotes a HUGE favor by winning that game. They just gave us a future. I would sacrafise the win for a coaching change any day of the week and then some. I was cheering for a win but maybe a win would have masked problem and kept the Yotes from moving ahead for at least another year. I meant for this to be a tribute thread but instead some other decided to hijak it instead.

If you were a true fan, you would NEVER cheer against your team no matter what! If the coaching change was meant to be, it was meant to be no matter what. Like you like to say. It is what it is!

This comment is going to be unpopular but heck why not. Goodbye Karma points. If I could do it all over again I would not trade this result and consequence for a win over UND after nearly blowing the game and Meierkort remaining head coach. I am for the longterm betterment of this program.
I have said this on the Jacks board in the past and stand by it. I don't see the Great West as a real conference being that it only has 5 teams. Winning one-half of a 5 team conference is not a great accomplishment. We would have been one-half alliance champions with a win. I care much more about winning a Missouri Valley Football Conference Title and feel what happened will end up giving us the best chance to do just that.
Eventhough I was cheering for the win at the time in retrospect I think what happened is best for Coyote Football. We are not in it to be mediocre. We are in it to be very good to great. We were never going to see either without a change.

A true fan would NEVER cheer against their team under any circumstances. It is the same as saying, "I am not going to the game because we are playing a D2 team." That is BS as well. If you are a fan of the Coyotes, you go to the game no matter who they are playing!

Wow. You sound like a Vikings fan after the first three games saying throw the season so we can get Andrew Luck.
Whatever man, seriously, you and your damn KARMA points! Who gives a sh!t! You always talk about losing them. You claim you are the outspoken one, so losing those points shouldn't matter to you.

I think we are better off today than one week ago. Just saying. Lets focus on the future and the hopefull excellence that it will bring.

The Vikings weren't going anywhere with McNabb so I was hoping Ponder would get in there along with 90% of other Viking fans. Being a Viking fan what would you expect other than a cynical one. I am for talking about the future of this football program and moving forward.

You weren't cheering for the coyotes losing? If you weren't cheering, you were pretty excited they got beat at the end of the game. Same difference!
Yes I know the Vikings weren't going anywhere with McNabb. It is pathetic that you are a veteran quarterback and you have a game with 34 yards passing. Every pass was thrown into the ground. He was terrible.
