As of last month the Coyote Administration said that by the middle of December that they would release the images of what the new arena would look like. I am anxiously waiting for the release. Hopefully we will get them soon.

Any preliminary information about the facility? Where will it be located? Capacity? It will seat approximately 6,000. It will be located (I believe) directly to the south of the dakotadome and be connected at the least by an indoor walkway. I believe the McLeod Center at UNI has been a facility that USD might look at closely. Sayler said he wants it to be a best of facility. He wants to take the best features of the recent newer facilities and combine them to make USD's facility. As a fan my biggest wish is to see an arena that puts the fans on top of the court rather than back and away from the court. I hope they build with the philosophy of "up" and not "back".

A comment on Micks live chat said the drawings were shown to some fans before the Western Illinois game and they looked very impressive. Anybody seen the drawings? Details? When will the drawings be released to the public?

When will the drawings be released to the public? The renderings done by Populous were awesome. Totally blew me away. Hopefully fundraising will go well, there is a lot of work to do. The pictures will not be made public anytime soon according to Sayler. He is making the rounds showing big potential donors first.

Thanks for the update usdfbalum. Any idea what sort of time frame Sayler is looking at for completion of arena(Phase 1) and dome renovation (Phase 2)?

If they started today they could be completely done in three years. The two hold ups will be the amount of time it takes to raise money (biggest factor) and also the timing of taking down the South DakotaDome wall. The basketball arena portion will have to be finished first, then the dome renovation (integration with the new basketball arena). The entrance to the new facility looked great. Very open with a lot of glass.
The basketball arena will seat 6000 with room for an additional 1000 in a luxury area. Very open design with a relatively low ceiling - to trap sound, making it louder. The DakotaDome will have around 12000 seats with the ability (theoretically) to expand to 15000. Sounds like that would be a very expensive upgrade, but possible. North of the Dome there will be two field-turf practice fields. East of the dome you will have two soccer fields, a softball facility, and a track facility. The track will share enclosed premium seating with the soccer game field.

I wish I could see those renderings. Does the arena look like what UNI has? Do the grandstands have a steep pitch (hopefully)? I think it's a good thing to have a low ceiling to make sound contained.

Really hard to tell on the pitch of the seats from what I saw. If they build what they showed us it will be smaller than the Valley arenas but will have every bit the quality.
I really think this project has the potential to change USD as a school and Vermillion as a town dramatically for the better. Sayler appears driven to do this the right way. Sounds like President Abbott is on board too.

goyotes,
Is there anyway that you could pan down a bit because it looks like you have a shot of the inside of the arena but it's not showing up.

That is from Mick Garry's blog. That is all he has.
Has anybody else been able to see these plans yet?

The Yankton Press and Dakotan hit it out of the park again. TY to James and Jeremy. Go to their website and click on Video. You can watch the Dan Fitzimmon's presentation to the Yankton QB Club. He has a large board of the overall plans for the facilities. He also provides some details concerning the same.

Saw the full set of plans for the arena and the dome. Sorry I don't have pictures to share, but I can tell you they are doing it right and it will be very nice, without being excessive. The bunnies won't have anything on us in regard to facilities.

Throw us a bone. What is the arena from another college that might be the closest to the new design.

A smaller uni with some sprinkling of ualr. Easily expandable on the west side. No center scoreboard.
