I wish they'd put it below ground, and I also don't like that that article says the originally planned 3 story building will only be 1 now. I want the most impressive facility possible, and it sounds like they are getting less and less ambitious with it. Go big or go home, we need to make a big time splash.

Thanks, this is more of what I have been hoping for. It would appear that SDSU is taking a different approach (communication wise) with their facility improvement project as every nut, bolt, and seat width is openly debated daily on the bunnie board. Gotta give them credit for keeping information flowing and in return they are stoking a lot of fan interest.

I agree, it would be great if they could put the arena floor at the football field level. I'm not an engineer, or geologist, but the issue with the water table is puzzling given the original dome floor elevation. It would seem that having the arena floor at ground level would lead to higher energy costs with more of the building exposed to the elements. Also, the entire appearance changes with a tall arena on one end, a large, one story, connector building in the middle, and then the tall dome on the other end.

Functionally this seems to make more sense. If it also saves the money necessary to make a go of it, then so be it!

Hope it works as well as the conceptuals make it look. Are we still set to break ground in a few months here?

I really wish that the athletics department would share more information about this project. I know we are still fundraising, but little or nothing is shared to generate excitement or interest. At what point does a mass mailing or emailing go to alumni asking for financial support for those that can't afford to give 6 figures or more? The guy giving $100 is just as important as the guy giving $100k in my opinion.

Definitely. I'm very interested and excited about this project, and would like to be updated to know where we stand from time to time. I'm still not even sure if it's confirmed we're breaking ground in the Spring.

Here, knock yourself out. www.onwardsd.org/www.onwardsd.org/donatewww.onwardsd.org/donate/give-to-howling-pack?tab=1If you want to give money to this project or to any other project the U is undertaking the information is out there and readily available. I get phone calls and mailings constantly. I told the girl who called me the other night that they didn't need to waste time and money soliciting me anymore. I know what is going on and know who to contact to donate.

Yes, I am serious. I get the same phone calls and mailings that you do, but I'm talking the arena project specifically. I'm pretty sure that if you asked one of the students that works at the Foundation call center to give you specifics about the arena, they couldn't give you that information. It wasn't that long ago (Oct 28th post), that the arena was still above ground. Joey James relayed on Tuesday night was that the arena is back below ground and the design has been finalized. Thank goodness for the coaches sharing information because the administration sure isn't sharing the same information. I have no doubt that those that are being asked for the 6 figure donations are getting every detail. I'm not in a position to give 6 figures but I'm still excited for the new arena so why can't the information be shared with the general fan base?

The lack of communications from the AD's office on the major facilities project is a major shortcoming IMHO. I can understand how the design stage was in a continuous flux but they need to be sharing some of the "why this, and not that" stuff.
I have contacted them a number of times (and yes, I have made a pledge) and I get the occasional response but it is mostly pathetic.
My support of the Yotes goes beyond whoever is running the AD office but.........

Rendering is ok but nothing that gets me excited. Typically, renderings are much nicer than finished product so I will be on record with "looks ok". I liked the potential with the previous connector building and dome club. I saw the full slate of previous renderings and really liked the plan. The new rendering reduces the dome club and how the two buildings flow with each other. With all that said, I am still happy and support the project.
