I've heard from a few people that ground will be breaking in April, and I'll be very pleased if true. The 20-month construction time would put completion around December 2016, just in time for conference play? It'd be nice if we only have two more full seasons left in the Dome after this year.

If it is 20 months, then December of 15 becomes the target.

An article in The Volante this week says that construction will begin in May, with Herbster hoping the project will be completed in the Summer of 2016. I wasn't aware, but part of this project will include adding 3,000 seats to the Dome in the area that currently houses the weight room and volleyball court. Looks like we've got two more full seasons of basketball in The Dome. Can't wait to see this thing get built.

Right now they are $9M short to do the arena project without any work to the Dome, so my guess is that might not be accurate. That carries a price tag of another $5M and I believe will be included on the second part of the campaign. That's how I understood it when they called on me in the capital campaign. The shortage for the time being will be covered by the foundation, but fund raising efforts can't/won't stop.

I asked about the basketball arena on the P&D sports chat this afternoon and here was jhoeck's response: "On the arena, 94grad, all I can say is: Keep your eyes peeled on area media in the coming days."
Also, Amy Williams was on the SF afternoon sports talk show today and alluded to receiving facility info this morning. Seems logical the staff would hear it first, whatever "it" is.
Stay tuned I guess!

There will be a press conference sometime during the tourney regarding the arena. I'm not sure of the day or time.

There will be a press conference sometime during the tourney regarding the arena. I'm not sure of the day or time. After the women's game Sunday. At the coyote hospitality room in the Sheraton.

Where do you guys get this info? I'd like to go, but I've heard nothing of these announcements. Apparently there is a rally before/after the game, really feel like that should be made known to the public. Who said communication from the AD was everything we should expect.

Now that the start date has been announced I wonder if we will be getting any more in detail renderings, or maybe a video presentation of what the new facility will look like. It would be great to get more than the 1 or 2 photos that were put out on it some time ago.

To mangle a recent political statement, "we will have to build it so you can see what's in it." You will just have to wait but all of your questions will be answered in about 20 months or so. Yeah, I'm still pissed with the AD's inabilitiy to see this facility project as a huge marketing opportunity for athletics, and USD in general. I know............stop reading Terry Vandrovec's daily tweets about updates on current construstion activity at SDSU........ and stay away from the bunny board because they have 100 times more details on their building projects. Okay, I am done with this subject for another week or so....

I'm not sure what more detail everyone wants right now since ground breaking won't even take place till May. I think the drawings provided look great and give a good idea of what the complex will look like!
