If I was on your site, and posted something like DakotaDome to be completely renovated and seating ezpanded to 20,000, I would get the cold shoulder. Then I would get the Dakota Dump comments, etc.
But let me congratulate you if indeed this happens. You need something different than what you have. Either you have quite a recruiting advantage over the other Dakota schools because you are playing outside, or you have made a bad decision to build an outdoor stadium in light of the potential bad weather and said to heck with it, jthat s who we are. The stadium looks nice, different than what I have heard about before.
Either way, good luck getting it built. You'll have a new football stadium, we'll have a new basketball arena and a renovated Dome, so both schools should be in good shape facility wise.

Congratulations on the announcement. Hurry up before the old stadium collapses. As you probably know, the concrete on your main grandstand side was found to be faulty by the engineers that inspected it. The porta-potties will be missed.

I think they should put a roof over it. Taking on athletic facility improvements of $100 million plus over the last year or so would indicate they have the wherewithal to take weather out of the mix.

Absolutely not. I like football outside, even when it's really cold. I can just put whiskey in my coffee for tailgating.

Eh, you'd get some of that, but lots would congratulate you and have questions. As Yote53 demonstrated, that happens here too. On the dome, when are you guys doing those renovations? I thought those were separate from the proposal for the new basketball arena. How many seats are being added? I thought I heard it would be expanded to 13,000-15,000. Is that accurate?

I believe the plan is to break ground this Spring on the Basketball arena. The basketball facility needs to be completed before the Dome renovation can begin. 13,000 capacity is the plan now with the ability to expand to 16000 (not likely though because it would cost an enormous amount of money to squeeze that into the Dome's footprint.) USD's fan base is a long way from selling out a 13000 seat stadium on its own. Games against SDSU and NDSU - most likely would if USD can continue to improve their team like I think they will.

I've never heard anyone supporting an indoor facility for SDSU football. An open-air stadium allows expansion for a more reasonable cost and if we can ever get to the point where 18,000 to 18,500 seats are filled for nearly every home game, then we can take it to 22,000.
I've been in the FargoDome when the weather outside was nasty and I was glad I was indoors. I attended one high school playoff championship game at the DakotaDome when the weather outside was pretty poor -- and I was glad I was indoors. I've also been at Coughlin Alumni Stadium in bad weather, dressed appropriately, and was perfectly comfortable...reminded me of a couple November Vikings games I attended at the old Met. The fact is, its a pretty rare Saturday (like the one in Fargo) when the weather is so bad I'm glad I'm indoors.
The worst weather I've sat in at CAS was the year Ryan Berry threw seven TD passes in snow flurries against Indiana State...it was cold but I was dressed like I was going ice fishing so I was fine. Berry was amazing.

There is no need for an indoor facility. Anybody that says otherwise is lying. It is great to have to dome, but if I were the State College, I wouldn't want too build it indoors for the same reasons jackjd stated. Beyond the fact that this is FOOTBALL, the cost and expansion capabilities make it a no brainer. Consider the fact that if you were to spend the same amount of money on an indoor facility as you did an outdoor facility, the number of class A amenities that you could have in the outdoor facility would justify the decision alone.

Actually, I was having a little fun with our Bunny Brethern about dropping another $100,000,000 to get it done right.
jackjd, I don't doubt you have sat through some ugly weather at CAS, but were you ever on the visitor side facing into a 40 mph, 20 degree, NW gale? No fun.
And, what's another $100 million? As my Dad would say when faced with a big ticket tractor/combine replacement "Boys, we are going to have to raise a few more pigs this year." (yep, just havin' a little more fun with you...)

I responded that way because I was prompted to by YoteForever's post and nobody had given it the cold shoulder yet. It just had to be done.

I think it'll be great when both schools get their facilities done. I was in the Dome last year and it is much improved from the old days. Nice turf. Nice scoreboard. Once it has permanent seats on the other side, there is no reason why it won't be an excellent football facility. And the new USD arena looks really nice, too. I like it when the Jacks win, but I also consider myself a sports fan in general, so I watch for opportunities to check on my other home state team.
