After a couple losses at the end of the game in football this year, it's nice to see a game where we trailed up until the last minute and a half and then closed it out at the end. Well done yotes!!

Lots of players getting minutes...........Thoseby not scoring at this point in the season like I expected. Battled pretty even on the boards and won the turnover battle 18-9.
Good win over a solid opponent!

I liked a lot about tonight's performance, but two things left me pretty sore. Our free throw shooting is abysmal, and Trey Norris is going to kill us if he keeps refusing to pass the ball. Less than two minutes left in the game, down by a point, Trey gets the ball and runs right into very heavy coverage and naturally got blocked out of his mind. The game was on the line, it was a huge possession, and he pulled the same stupid crap he did most of the game by taking it himself into heavy coverage. Luckily Robertson was able to make an amazing rebound and put it back in to give us the lead, but that almost cost us the game.

It's the same as last year when we had that Juevol Myles. These guys come on and are undisciplined, and for some reason, keep getting away with that crap. The problem is they make one out of fifteen, and that keeps them going. 1-8, I'm with you completely.

Having seen no games in person yet this year and knowing little about hoops, here's my expert opinion: Norris's AST/TO ratio is great. I'm no coach, but my advice to him would be "shoot less". He seems to be doing everything else pretty well. If we've got scorers, he needs to get the ball to them and let them do what they're good at. Maybe his shooting will come around, but last year's stats wouldn't seem to indicate that. Take away a few of those misses every game and put them in the AST column and we're looking at a 5 or 6 point swing in every contest.

I've now watched, start to finish, our games against Canisius, Texas State and Utah Valley. Not surprisingly, I think Bos and Gruis are our most reliable pieces, though Trevor did not play well last night. Our offensive production is awful. We seem out of sync and our outside shooting just isn't there. On the season, we're shooting 30% from three and 64% from the free throw line. We won't win Summit League games with those numbers.
It's clear to me that roles are still being defined, and that's resulted in, at times, some sloppy basketball. I'd rather not view the remaining non-conference slate as simply a laboratory to straighten things out; I'd like us to pick up some more wins and momentum heading into the conference season. But we'll need to sharpen up quickly if we expect much success in the coming weeks.
Dec 5 @ Air Force (Air Force will finish last in the Mountain West. They are awful. This is a winnable game.)
Dec 7 vs Wyoming (We've already seen what Wyoming can do. Besides beating us, they almost beat a good Colorado team and hung with Ohio State. I give us about a 40% chance of pulling this one off in Rapid City.)
Dec 10 @ K-State (This is not last year's K-State team, but it's still a Big 12 school with Big 12 athletes. Our offense will need to show huge improvements to be competitive in this one).
Dec 14 vs Green Bay (No easy out here. Green Bay is projected to finish 2nd in the Horizon and nearly knocked off Wisconsin. Those with a high sports IQ will recognize that this is a quality opponent visiting the Dome. It's frustrating when no one shows up for these games. It's not SDSU, I guess.)
Dec 19 @ Morehead State (Morehead State, 7-3, is playing good basketball, as evidenced by last night's home victory over a solid Wright State team projected to finish ahead of Green Bay atop the Horizon. We've had success against these guys, but it's going to take more than what we've shown to snag a road victory here.)
Dec 29 @ Youngstown (Middle of the pack Horizon team with a good guard. Beatable.)
Jan 2 vs Cal State-Northridge (They returned all five starters from last year's 14-17 team, but they haven't shown much this year. Another winnable game, particularly at home.)
Jan 4 vs Iowa Wesleyan (Yawn.)
This is a challenging stretch, but one filled with opportunity. I think our ceiling is somewhere in the neighborhood of .500 heading into the conference schedule.

You are pointing out two possessions where he tried to make a play. Why not take a positive and say he attacked with a want to score that time and it caused a help situation by Erics man then he was able to clean up the glass. How can you judge his PG play of of that. His A:TO ratio is probably the best of any PG in the last 5 years. This is probably the first year in 5 as well where a PG isnt leading us in scoring. This years team is much more balanced and organized for the simple fact that they have a true PG. Yeah sure he made some not so good judgements but basketball isnt down to those two plays. If we wernt 16-28 free throws you guys wouldnt even be talking about those not so smart plays. I like the balance of this team a lot. I like their defensive concepts and I love their ability to fight. If we were in that game last year we probably lose it. Shows what good leadership and maturirty does to a team in a tight game situation. Great win. They all help

I, too, like the balance of this year's team. I just hope what we've seen thus far is nowhere close to this team at its best, because we'll need a much better product to finish toward the top of the Summit League. I don't hate what I've seen thus far from Trey Norris, but I think his real value will be shown once our shooters start making outside shots. I'm proud of our guys. Winning ugly is still winning. Good teams find a way even on off nights. I'm just anxious to see us have a truly on night.

Good win for the Yotes. However, if they can't improve their free throw shooting dramatically, they can't expect to win many tight games as the season moves along.

Trey Norris is the point guard USD has been waiting for. Pass first, score when only necessary or when the looks are there. Just watch him, he's constantly looking to get guys involved, very impressive to watch, and he'll only get better. Remember, he sat out a full year. Takes some time to get back in the flow. You'll see him eventually start routinely cracking 10 assists, once the rest of the offense starts kicking it in.

Trey Norris is not our problem. In fact, he has been our saving grace and we are lucky to have him. He is top 10 nationally in ass/to ratio and top 30 in assists per game. That is even more amazing when you consider we are one of the most gawd awful shooting teams in the country. Once we start making shots, looking at you Adam and Casey, at an even below average clip his assist numbers will rise.
