Sadly, my alma mater, Nebraska, is not smart right now with regard to football decision making. I guess it helps build my growing commitment to USD fandom...

jackl you're probably right but they could have done much better than Pelini the last time too and didn't.

Not saying I want Bohl, just want Bo to be gone. He is the opposite of class.

Sadly, my alma mater, Nebraska, is not smart right now with regard to football decision making. I guess it helps build my growing commitment to USD fandom... I hear that. Bo Pelini at the helm is like purgatory. Never bad enough to fire him, never good enough to be remotely satisfied with him. I never saw Craig Bohl leaving. I honestly thought he would retire at NDSU after his FBS time went so sour. He did make a point when he said that he had taken NDSU as far as he could, which is absolutely true barring an unforseen move to the FBS, but I really thought he was satisfied enough with Fargo that he'd never leave. I wonder if he'll coach NDSU through the rest of the playoffs.

$$ Cash money $$
NDSU would never be able to pay Bohl that kind of money, and at some point, you would have to think there would be nothing left to prove at that level. Each of us seeks new challenges every once in a while.

Don't ask me, Bohl is the one who signed an extension then less than a year later left saying he'd taken the program to its limit. I guess it was the impending third title that made him yearn for a bigger challenge.

The conversation surrounding this announcement is fascinating. Folks in Fargo are rightfully disappointed that they’re losing a great football coach. It’s interesting, however, to hear so much questioning of the destination. I do share the opinion that Bohl seemed positioned to land at a more prestigious spot (Boise, Big 12, etc.) I do not, however, see anything controversial about choosing Wyoming over NDSU. He’d be a fool to turn down that kind of compensation package. Does Wyoming football have certain limitations? Sure. They will not compete for a national title, and it wouldn’t surprise me if there soon comes a day they won’t even be eligible for such an opportunity. That said, I think Bohl has the potential to elevate a program that competes at a higher level. And I’ve never really been convinced that conquering the FCS playoff format is any more special than grabbing nine wins and a solid FBS bowl bid.
Bohl’s leaving has intensified some chatter about NDSU making the FBS jump. I continue to see that as a real and exciting possibility, with many logistical stumbling blocks. At the end of the day, Fargo will always be a stepping stone, just like Wyoming and virtually every school in the country. I believe Bohl is 53 years old. I’m tempted to wonder what kind of attention Bohl would get from power conference schools if he can immediately turn around Wyoming.
I think the Bison will be just fine. NDSU remains a coveted FCS job, with some of the best facilities and fan support in the country. The loss of a great senior class virtually guarantees that NDSU takes a step back next year, but I wouldn’t expect them to fall off too far or too long.

Bohl's first priority should be ensuring that Brett Smith, the Wyoming senior QB, sticks around for his senior year. He is a VERY good QB, especially in the MWC. There are several rumors floating around out there that both he and Blake Bell from OU want to take the Russell Wilson route and transfer for their senior year/grad school.
