Saturday night is a rare treat for Coyote sports fans when the University of Wisconsin- Green Bay comes to Vermillion. The Phoenix have defeated Pepperdine, Tulsa, and Virginia of note this year, along with Minnesota-Duluth. They played the highly ranked Badgers to a 3 point game in Madison, so this team is very good, and very dangerous. What a great opportunity for USD, and our fans to get out and support the Coyotes.
As a side note, UWGB assistant coach Jimmie Foster is a former Coyote that played on the 2001-2002 teams. Foster was two time all NCC and newcomer of the year in 2001, and was one of USD's fan favorites for his constant hustle. Lets have a big crowd to welcome back Jimmie, and support our Coyotes to a thrilling win. Good luck guys.

Green Bay is solid. They have a 7'1" center and a PG that is averaging over 20 ppg.

Checked the RPI rankings on ESPN. Green Bay was at 60 while USD is sitting at 203. As a side note, the Jacks are at 274. A win over UWGB would go a long way to getting some momentum and confidence going for a USD team that has been battling and steadily improving each game.

Well, this is getting frustrating to say the least. I posted this in the AL chat mid-way through the second half tonight: "Mr. Hoeck tweeted that we've led at the half the last 3 games and lost all three. Is this an energy thing? Lack of coaching adjustments? Any ideas?"
Here's the response I got from Mick: "They're playing teams they'd be fortunate to beat under any conditions...They've done a good job of disguising physical disadvantages in the first half of these games...not as good a job in the second"
All this may be true, but this makes four games in a row now. Grrr.....

Didn't get to see the game, but watched the highlights and post-game response. These have been tough losses the past 4 games, but I have been impressed at the level of play by the Coyotes during this run. Yeah, there are lessons still to be learned, like how to play better in the 2nd half, rebounding on defensive side, and making plays in crunch time. However, the real promising thing is we're playing at a level, against these opponents, that should equate with the very upper level of the Summit League when we get into league play. I'm liking how the team is developing, and am quite excited for the Conference slate.

These last 4 teams are definitely teams that we would be fortunate to beat under any conditions, and are possibly the 4 hardest teams on our entire schedule. Hopefully this high level of play that we've brought will translate to conference play, because if it does we will have a shot at a top 3 finish in the regular season.

Certainly some tough games, but I wouldnt exactly include Air Force among "hardest teams"....picked 10th in the Mountain West. I'm still optimistic with this team, but man, can we start getting over this hump? Womens' team is looking good, but holy cow could USD use something to get excited about.

Wayback, The USD women will take on Nebraska on December 21st and will have a shot at knocking off an opponent currently ranked in the women's top 25. Now that would be something to get excited about. I agree, the men need a signature win (or string of wins) and it will come. They are too talented for the current losing skid to last much longer.

Joey James said the exact same thing on the Coyote Report tonight.....They need a signature win. Dang right they do. Only a matter of time.

Was the turnout good? I just now saw that Joey James had this message sent out to all USD students (shows how often I check my email):
Students- I ask you all to please join myself, staff and players Saturday, December 14th, at 7pm in the Dome, as we take on a very talented Wisconsin Green Bay basketball team! I understand it’s finals week, but this will be a great time to take a 2 hour break from all the stress. Come on out and cheer on YOUR team! Be loud and proud as our 6th man! We would appreciate the support. Best of luck with Finals and I hope to see you all at the game! Go Yotes!! Coach James Head Men's Basketball Coach
Joey definitely did his best to get students to come to this one, hope there was a good turnout.

There was a really good turnout of students actually. Joey knows how to relate to students WAY better than Boots ever did. Could you imagine Boots doing this? Not a chance. Thanks students for showing up. Joey is doing the right things we just need to get a few more Ws.
