they are a tough squad but they have dropped a couple as of late. Would sure be nice to avenge the loss at their house. We need Brandon Bos to find his rhythm again. He has been non existent for to long. Hopefully a couple home games will get him going as we head into the last few games of the regular season. 2 wins at home and a steal on the road next weekend (not likely as they are the 2 hardest places to play in the summit) would do wonders heading into the SL tournament. Im still optimistic that we can make some noise!

Any knowledge as to whether we will use the same starting lineup that we did against IUPUI?
PG: Norris SG: Larson SF: Rowson PF: Flack C: Gruis
To me, this seems like a more defensively minded lineup. Also, much in the way that it seemed to improve the effectiveness of Thoseby, I tend to think that Bos might serve the team better coming in off the bench.

I don't watch much hoops but that was a heckuva last play Omaha ran. Perfectly executed except for the shot itself. Scary. A win is a win though. GO YOTES!

We were very fortunate to even be in the game with our 20 turnovers. They were able to attempt 9 more FGs and 7 more FTs than us, and could have easily blown us out, but we had a very good shooting night. Can't count on going 9-14 on 3s every night, a full 30% better than our season average. Ugly win, but a good win. Also, I never want to see 57 free throw attempts in a game ever again. That was just terrible to watch. I don't watch much hoops but that was a heckuva last play Omaha ran. Perfectly executed except for the shot itself. Scary. A win is a win though. GO YOTES! Little bit of a hook and ladder there, thankfully the shot was way off. Win on Saturday and we lock up at least the 5 seed in the Summit Tourney. Western Illinois has not won on the road this year, so I'll be very disappointed if we give them their first one.

Great close win Yotes!! Great job Coach James on playing some zone the 2nd half! It definitely slowed them down, they missed a number of 3s and it took them out of their run, gun and penetrate style just enough!!

It was very nice to get a win. I don't want that to get lost in this, but the problems on this team, in my opinion, are almost entirely related to a lack of discipline. That is a coaching problem.
I have never seen such sloppy passing. Also, when we have a big lead, for goodness sake, slow down! I am not saying we have to stall or something extreme, but in the last 6 minutes all we did was force the ball down, make mental mistakes and produced over a half dozen turn overs. I mean how in the heck do we give up back to back steals that result in dunks on our home court!?!
Joey has talent on this team and he has produced great camaraderie and chemistry between his players. The next step, which might be the most important for success, is instilling some discipline and attention to detail.
At the end of the day, it is great to get the win. We just need to keep getting better.

I agree with many of the comments so far. Weird game for the Yotes. You won't lose too many games shooting 9-14 on 3's, but you won't win many with 20 TO's. I agree with Cousin Eddie. How many times must this team struggle with ball pressure and TO's? We need to value the basketball and each possession. That definitely comes down to discipline and mental toughness, something we rarely demonstrate in end of game situations. Im definitely glad we got the W, but I came away feeling demoralized that we almost choked away another one, this time by the old Bryce Drew Valpo play.

Granted that is way to many but the guys were obviously locked in hence the really high shooting percentages. We out rebounded them and they had 11 more shots, our bench out scored theirs. I get it turnovers need to be cleaned up but we did everything else right to win the game. Needed a big win and got one. Happy for the guys and coaching staff. Go Yotes

Yes, we out-rebounded them, but it was 36-33. Turnovers were 20-13.

USD averages about a point per possession according to Kenpom, so I would agree with 123456789 that we were lucky. Each turnover essentially represents a point lost. We average about 12.5 turnovers a game so 20 at home is pretty awful. 12.5 still is not very good for a guard oriented team generally speaking. And yes we shot very well, but Omaha does not exactly play the lock down D many teams in this league play. Many of our 3's were wide open looks. will be night and day tempo and defense from Western this weekend. Looking forward to it. Win will lock us in with at least a 5 seed. Could be a lot of reshuffling in front of us at 2-4, something interesting to see how it plays out.

When you play a team like omaha, you're going to rack up some turnovers because of the tempo. So that 20 stat might be a bit deceiving, though still a concern, just not a giant one right now.

There were many just terrible passes though. The tempo seemed irrelevant on a lot of these, we just threw them away. Like stated earlier, we gave up back to back turnovers for dunks. All of this at home! There wasn't a hostile crowd berating our guys or anything. I'm glad we got the win, but that was just ugly.
