Coach Matt Houck has given his letter of resignation and is heading to the University of Minnesota to be the associate head coach for the nationally ranked Gophers. I know for a fact he leaves with a heavy heart as he loves USD, but at the end of the day, because our budget is what it is, he's got a responsibility to take care of his family.
Matt has brought us from the pits to regional recognition. The Coyotes are very good, and getting better. I wish Matt the best, and want to thank him for what he did for USD. Great guy...awesome family.

Crap. The woes of being a mid-major college, all the great talent leaves. Wish we would have made the tourney with him this last season, our girls deserved it.

He was a great guy. But we will get someone just as good. Hoping the best for our volleyball program!

According to The Volante....USD is currently in the search for their new HC and will treat it just like the men's basketball search. Herbster expects a Summit League Championship, and an NCAA tournament appearance this next season and he wants to find someone who can do just that.

We have the talent, that's for sure. This position has to be a pretty attractive one I'd say.

We have the talent, that's for sure. This position has to be a pretty attractive one I'd say. The problem lies in what we can pay coaches in a "minor" sport. I approached an assistant at a Big 12 school that I thought might be interested in interviewing, and they declined because they make 6 figures as assistants, and we can't (or won't) pay that much. It's a tough situation. My guess is that is why Matt left, because of more financial security for his family, and I can't blame him.

That is tough. I really can't see us breaking six figures for volleyball. The highest I could see us going would be about 75k, and even that might be a little high, I'm not sure. Would a Big 12 assistant be interested in the job? We just had our coach leave to be an assistant at a Big Ten school.

That was through a high-profile, well-established search firm. Volleyball search will be done through the usual channels. And I definitely expect Leanne to get some serious consideration.
