Warren Swain is seriously losing it. He first said welcome to Husker basketball. Then talked about the Husker Women playing tonight (he meant USD women). Then when USD won the opening tap he got excited and said the Huskers win the tip, when it was actually the Coyotes. Three mistakes in about a minute or two's time.
This is simply unacceptable, WOW!!!
This takes the cake and is my final straw in my opinion of our radio broadcasts. I can understand one mistake but he said this during the last football game on the post game show. I have heard at least 4 mistakes of calling the Coyotes the Huskers.
USD need a pro Coyote announcer that makes the listeners feel they are listening to the Yotes and not another team. He has never felt right to me.

In his defense.
1. He used to announce the Huskers. 2. Hell, watching on TV I got confused. Same school colors. I kept thinking the Yotes were in white when they were in red.

And we get upset at the opposing team's announcers when they keep calling us San Diego State University. At least it isn't our own announcers. Unfortunately, you got Mr. Swain on the downhill side of the peak of his career. As USD finishes transition and grows in stature, announcing at USD games will become a more desirable position.

One of my favorite local announcers is Jim Olander. He does Stampede hockey but also does other sports as well. He is very excitable, very knowledgable and tells it like it is. He wears his emotions on his sleave. I would love for USD to make a run at him. He has a good voice for announcing and is fairly young. He would do an excellent job but he unfortunatley wouldn't get to do hockey, which might be his bread and butter. Use some of that arena money on him and I am sure they could lure him to USD.
I guess you can call that a recommendation and an endorsement.

Yeah, Coyote Fan is right on the money here. Jimmy O is pretty good, I also like Brad Peterson as well. He has done a great job with high school football and I feel he could make the jump up.
Warren is a great guy, but his announcing just continues to slip game in and game out.
I agree with Coyote Fan, it's time for someone new.

I vote for Tim Smith. He does DWU football and basketball. He has an amazing voice and would do a great job!

I was on the road last evening during the Lamar game heading west on Hwy 46. Once I got to highway 37, I could no longer pick up the Coyote game on the radio as evening reception on 1450 Yankton & 1490 Mitchell is limited to a pretty small radius. (as it turned out, perhaps a blessing in disguise) Too me a bigger concern than who does the announcing is to make the broadcast available to a greater portion of the state.

Back when Culhaine was doing the radio broadcasts I used to bring my headset to the dome to listen to him while he did the play by play and analysis of the games and I also did that when Tom Frederick used to go games as well. Kevin was far from perfect with the technical aspect of the play by play but because of his enthusiam for the Yotes and because I thought he was just interesting to listen to I tuned in often.
Now a days I haven't even thought about bringing my radio to the dome for games and I was so annoyed one game that I actually listened to the opponents play by play announcer as an alternative. I simply want to hear a good play by play voice that feels like he is pro Coyote but I also want to hear the truth about things, don't want to hear everything being sugar coated all the time either. If the Yotes weren't playing well I would never know it because it would never be portraid. I also want to hear the truth about good or bad officiating. If a call went against USD's opponent and it was a bad call I want to know it, not just when a bad call that goes against the Yotes.
David Sayler wants to creat a better game day atmosphere well this is the chance to make that a reality for everyone sitting at home or in their cars listening to USD sports. Lets go get a good voice that feel like a USD announcer and one that makes the listening feel like they don't want to turn the station or stop listening until the broadcast is signed off after the last post game commentary.
I actually think it would be a great idea to think about having a segment after the games to call in and talk about the games. At least give the fans the opportunity and if no one calls in then the broadcast could end. I like nothing better than to hear other listeners opinions about a game whether good or bad.
