Today the playoffs brackets were announced. Augustana is the #2 seed and will host the winner of the #6 seed Colorado School of Mines and the #3 seed Grand Valley State.
I want to see Grand Valley win because people have been ripping on D2 football and I want to see this Laker program in person and in comparison to what we have been watching in FCS. This also gives a reasonable excuse to get out to Augies nice new stadium. Grand Valley kicked the Yotes all over the field in the 2006 playoffs.
I think this game could be worth a watch. Grand Valley has probably lost a step in the past couple of years but they are still very good. On one hand I want them to annihilate Augie but on the other hand if Augie wins it takes away alot of the steam in people downplaying the Vikings good season and writing it off to not having to play the former big boys of the NCC.
I think I will be routing for the Lakers but I will be a bit torn.

It's now a done deal Grand Valley will be playing in Sioux Falls next Saturday at Kirkeby-Over Stadium on the campus of Augustana. They defeated Colorado Mines 35-13. This is one of the non Coyote games that I will be very interested in seeing how it plays out. Augie a traditional dormat in the NCC plays one of the absolute best D2 programs ongoing for about a decade. If Augie wins the game it will take some of the steam out of the argument that Augie is only having a good season because of the absense of the old traditional NCC powers.

I can argue both sides of the fence on that. If your argument wins out than wouldn't it also be quite apparent that what Meierkort did in his first 3 years in D2 be a result of getting the better recruits because of SDSU and NDSU being gone as well. Now that USD is battling against all the other regional D1 FCS clubs for recruits doesn't bode well for what USD did in the early Meierkort years. I don't think you can hold USD accountable for what other programs did or didn't do in moving to D1 and the same holds true for Augie.

Your theories don't hold water about Meierkort and recruiting. Our best players now, and historically, are more often than not not local players. Most of our skill positions are recruited out of Illinois, Colorado, Florida, etc. With the exception of Will Powell from Sioux Falls I can't think of a whole lot of local kids.
As for the D2 playoffs, who cares? We left that a couple of years ago. FWIW, GVSU will beat Augie.
