51 fouls called in that game, 31 of them on the Yotes. I know we are playing the ball aggressively, but having that many fouls called on us is just a joke. The refs need to do their best to keep their hands off the game, but they certainly left fingerprints all over this one.
We trailed essentially the entire game, but our guys fought until the final whistle. I love that. I know it's just the first game of the season. Last year our guys had plenty of quit in them when they were down in the second half, so seeing a full 40 minute effort is very promising.
64% from the free throw line, 28% from the field, and 4/24 on 3s is just terrible though. We are not going to win many games with a line like that, let's get some better stats there against Stanford.

It needs to be said and I will say it before that other guy does. Fire.Smith.Now. We need to open a national search, no wait, an international search! I'm sure Craig is a nice guy, but we gave up 60 points! C'mon man these players deserve better.
But seriously, I think we'll be OK.

We played good defense and won the rebounding battle with a very short lineup.
31-20 on fouls, with a ton of those called against the offense. Are you kidding me stripes?
Shooting will come along - I hope. I want to see the other element first, however. The hustle stats. Those seemed to show up last night.

Definitely not a pretty game, but would you expect one when there are 8 new players on the roster playing their first game under an entirely new coaching staff? By conference play things will be gelling.

Great effort defensively. We did the things that are hard to get kids to buy into doing. It is not "cool" to play defense but I thought we guarded really well. Shots will fall, thats the easy part. I really enjoyed watching how hard the Yotes played and how they got after it defensively.
One thing I was a little frustrated with was all night #2 drove hard with the right hand. Would have liked to see an in game adjustment and shade him to the left off the bounce.
I am encouraged though.
Go Yotes!

kioatee--My thoughts exactly about #2 being only effective going right and toward the end of the game he drove right again made the layup and a 3 point play that was big. I screamed at the TV. As I think Joe Demagio (sp) once said sports is 70% mental and 40% physical! Amazing how many coaches and athletes even in the pros forget that.
