Defense wins games and the players fought hard tonight but Bos didn't miss the FT because of Joe V. Players aren't suppose to be listening to the crowd or radio guys! Nice excuse but Joe does a great job and the coyotes still win!

Good game and happy for the Yotes. They really battled and hung in there tough on this one. Hopefully it's the start of a 2 or 3 game winning streak heading in to Creighton. Although I'm happy for the team tonight, I'm disappointed with Joe VanGor. I've often wondered how many times Joe has cost us a missed free throw here and there in close games like this throughout the course of a season when the Yotes are playing in a flat environment like we had tonight. I'll explain... I watched the game on the WAC live feed and listened to Joe's radio broadcast at the same time. The game was played in a gym that drew a crowd befitting a Lyman County 9th grade girls game in front of a crowd of about 90 (I'm being generous here) and I see Joe is seated, as usual, right next to the Coyote bench with his head-phones on. As Brandon Bos headed to the line with time running out and the Yotes up by two, Joe has to remind everyone in the gym and listening in on the radio, at a time when you could have heard a pin drop, just how important making both shots would be for USD. Bos misses the front end and hits the back end. I have no doubt in mind that Brandon heard that comment and although college basketball players should be expected to block that stuff out, I just shake my head and ask "Really Joe?" These guys are human, they get nervous and caught up in the moment. I love Joe's enthusiasm, but for crying out loud, have some situational awareness. You are clearly a Coyote fan, but you gotta be smarter than that. When a guy is at the line, don't remind your audience and by default, that player, how he is "really struggling to make free throws" and then mention how "the Yotes are just having all kinds of trouble from the line tonight" and describe all of their shooting woes. I've heard you do it time and again and it's a total "C'mon Man" moment. You just gotta be smarter than that when a team that's struggling to find its MOJO is sitting to your right and the guys on the bench and the court can hear you. You are blessed with a good radio voice, but it carries. I've heard you speaking while sitting court-side at the Dome with a hell of a lot more fans in attendance than were at tonight's game. Rant over. Nice win for the men tonight. Way to fight back and get the win. By the way yotefan, I will correct you on the Lyman County comment for usdlaw. They are the Lyman Raiders, not Lyman County. Usdlaw will appreciate that! Haha. Had to throw that out there for him.

I have only been able to see the UVU game live and listened to a few of the others on the radio. I love that we never quit and fight back no matter what. It seems like when we are on we can compete with a lot of teams. I'm not sure what makes our offense so streaky. Is it going to be a year where we only win if Bos and Larson have good games because no one else is willing/capable to step up on offense?

I'm not sure what makes our offense so streaky. Is it going to be a year where we only win if Bos and Larson have good games because no one else is willing/capable to step up on offense? The Wayne State game is the only game I've actually watched so far this year but I felt there were long stretches in the game where USD was just trying to play one on one with their defender and if that didn't work, they would just kick it out to the next guy who would do the same thing. Once they got away from that, they could score more easily. I'm hoping that this is just a product of a new team trying to learn a new system and not an indicator of what the season will be like. USD just doesn't have the play makers to create for themselves in the one on one. I think they have other people besides Bos and Larson who can play well on offense as long as they stay within the offensive system.

Ha! Thanks Iceman. I was hoping to get him fired up, but usdlaw must be asleep at the switch. As the only one on the board (most likely) who's been to Hutch's Café three times in the last 3 months he gives me a little leeway on the Lyman County stuff. =)
I agree with usdcoyotes above that Bos didn't miss the free throw because of Joe, but then again college field-goal kickers don't miss field goals because opposing coaches call time out in an effort to ice them either, or call time out before crucial free throws to let a player "think about it," etc.... Just making the point that in a high pressure situation, he could go a little easy on the friendly fire.
