That court is ridiculous. I would hate to play on that.

The Coyotes have been down by as much as 15 but have rallied once again. 1:05 to go and the Yotes are up 2.

Now the Yotes have the ball up 2 with only 31.1 to go. As long as there is no turnover the Roadrunners will have to foul and both teams are in the double bonus.

The Yotes were down 15 with 17:00 to go. As has been the case with this team they have rallied from large deficits and did it again tonight. This time the Yotes were able to win it in crunch time instead of falling short. Tyler Larson is putting up big numbers. He is doing it with points, rebounds and assists. It's too bad he is already a senior this year. I think he has been the team MVP so far. His mother is in attendance tonight. Boss has had 20 or more for 3 straight games.

Craig Smith's post game comments>>> Happy to get win after having closes losses this year. Is proud of guys. You could see it in players eyes that they were gonna win. The Yotes were helped without Runners big man inside. Finally for a change made some free throws. Guards were scratching and clawing for rebounds. Yotes played small ball alot. Casey had best game of year, he had big three towards end. 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for Larson. Yotes are cardiac kids. Really good group of guys, he likes the guys. It's still a work in progress but guys are buying in. Smith talked about the foul up 3 when they fouled Bakersfield instead of letting them shoot the potential tying three. They worked on those situations in practice. Now off to Northridge on Tuesday. 29% shooting in second half for the Runners.<<<

Good game and happy for the Yotes. They really battled and hung in there tough on this one. Hopefully it's the start of a 2 or 3 game winning streak heading in to Creighton. Although I'm happy for the team tonight, I'm disappointed with Joe VanGor. I've often wondered how many times Joe has cost us a missed free throw here and there in close games like this throughout the course of a season when the Yotes are playing in a flat environment like we had tonight. I'll explain...
I watched the game on the WAC live feed and listened to Joe's radio broadcast at the same time. The game was played in a gym that drew a crowd befitting a Lyman County 9th grade girls game in front of a crowd of about 90 (I'm being generous here) and I see Joe is seated, as usual, right next to the Coyote bench with his head-phones on. As Brandon Bos headed to the line with time running out and the Yotes up by two, Joe has to remind everyone in the gym and listening in on the radio, at a time when you could have heard a pin drop, just how important making both shots would be for USD. Bos misses the front end and hits the back end. I have no doubt in mind that Brandon heard that comment and although college basketball players should be expected to block that stuff out, I just shake my head and ask "Really Joe?" These guys are human, they get nervous and caught up in the moment. I love Joe's enthusiasm, but for crying out loud, have some situational awareness. You are clearly a Coyote fan, but you gotta be smarter than that. When a guy is at the line, don't remind your audience and by default, that player, how he is "really struggling to make free throws" and then mention how "the Yotes are just having all kinds of trouble from the line tonight" and describe all of their shooting woes. I've heard you do it time and again and it's a total "C'mon Man" moment. You just gotta be smarter than that when a team that's struggling to find its MOJO is sitting to your right and the guys on the bench and the court can hear you. You are blessed with a good radio voice, but it carries. I've heard you speaking while sitting court-side at the Dome with a hell of a lot more fans in attendance than were at tonight's game. Rant over.

Gotta love these Yotes, and Coach Smith!
The themes that keep repeating themselves: Defense Everybody plays Defense Never quit Defense Healthy Tyler Larson Can't say where they'll end up in the Summit League, but my guess is they will be giving teams fits all the way to the final horn!
My view on the shooting (FTs and FGs)is that it is impacted by the level of defense they are playing. It takes a lot of work to play defense like they are this year. I think the shooting will come, and I think they will be conditioned to excel later in games, which will increase their shooting % as the game and the season wears on. Just my humble opinion...

I think you're right about the shooting cans.
