Final 87-75. The Yotes never gave up and fought all the way to the end. They got within 3 a couple of time but YSU would always have an answer.

Everyone here seems so happy with "coming close" or "fighting till the end", at the end of the day we need to win. I have always thought there is a statistic about guys that does not appear on the stat sheet, and that is being able to win! Numbers may not always compliment the players involved, but winning seems to follow these specific players around. Specific players are getting what they need to on the offensive end, which makes them look good, but is the defense there? We have been out manned in the guard position all year, from game one. We got lucky with Bakersfield, their best player got ejected, otherwise we lose by 20. Both of those cal teams will be ranked close to, if not in the 300's this year, which shows where we are at. There has to be a point where we look at who brings us wins, and the current lineup just isn't.

Right now the Coyotes are kind of a 3 man team in scoring with Kasperbauer, Boss and Larson. The team needs to have others step up to contribute more on the offensive end. I think the defense in this game was what let down the team tonight. Craig Smith is doing what he can with what he has to work with from his lineups. There is still a learning process going on. I choose to judge Coach Smith on year 1 with what he does in the Summit League. I think he deserves to have one non conference season as a growing process. No one is happy with coming close or fighting to the end but we have no other choice but to accept the early season results. If Smith doesn't produce some positive results by the end of year two then we can start to question some things more seriously. I hope it never comes to that and we see some really good things in the Summit this year. I like the fact that Smith talks about cutting the nets down in Sioux Falls at the end of the Summit tourney. He has goals and aspirations. The team has more growing to do but with the sites set on great things in the future hopefully that can be realized.

Like I said, we're losing to teams we really shouldn't be. We're better than that. Personally, I'd like to see more even rotation. Whilst I acknowledge those 3 guys are scoring, they're all playing 30+ minutes a game and missing a lot of shots in the process. Our bigs just seem non existent, but what's infuriating is our ability to play defence. I imagine if you looked back over the games this season and watched who was guarding the top scorers on the opposing team, you'd be surprised. Unfortunately, and perhaps coincidentally, there isn't a stat for 'field goals attempts allowed' and 'field goals made' on an individual. I think it would really open people's eyes that these guys playing 3/4 of the game are being scored on consistently. Last time I checked, our defence philosophy wasn't 'lets just try and score more than they score and hope for the best'.

"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." Vince Lombardi
To be a winner, it takes learning from your defeats. You measure yourself against winners and champions, it isn't necessarily a defeatist attitude to say "we're close" or "we fight to the end", as long as you don't settle and stop working.
miniravo, I think the rotation that you talked about is going to be an interesting development as the season progresses. There is a real positive with the scoring trio (Larson, Bos, Kasperbauer) getting more of the playing time. Earlier in the season, the deeper rotation seemed to have a better defensive effort, guys like Mayot, Davis play some good defense. I'm sure Coach Smith is still tinkering with the right mix.
Disagree about us losing by 20 to Bakersfield if their big man didn't get ejected. They were up by 10+ at times, but I don't think they ever had a commanding lead with him. We were making runs just like they were.
Youngstown St shot by my count 11-15, (3-3 on 3s) coming out of halftime, on the road! Some of those were offensive rebounds, some Im sure were defensive lapses, but you have to give some credit to the Yotes for cutting the 15 pt lead to 3 with a chance to win at the end.
