I was a big fan of Joey and the guy put in a lot of work for the U over a long period of time. It would be very hard for us to ever repay that debt to him. However, the current situation of the program is significantly better with Smith. A lot of that is Smith's name and assoication with Miles and past jobs etc. Thats not Joey's fault that he did not have those connections just a result of being in the USD system for all his coaching career. But anyone that is going to have that attitude towards Smith because of that is exactly what you said a little sore about the situation or do not know the process of building a program. Exactly. Joey was a great man. He kinda disappointed me with his attitude when he found out USD was opening a search. Can't really blame him, but he could've handle it better (i.e.: not tweeting his discrepancies). That being said, USD said all along that he was the "INTERIM" coach and the situation would be evaluated at the end of the year. I think it just boiled down to him being a young, inexperienced head coach. There were no halftime adjustments. He seemed to throw some of his players under the bus toward the end of the year. I was disappointed with USD's decision at first, but I think it was best for both sides. Joey gets his shot to prove himself at a lower level in a big city and USD gets Craig Smith. Win win.
