I agree with Charlie and fightsd. One thing I think would help us is to shoot the mid-range jumper more instead of relying on the 3 so much. I feel like one guy who'd really benefit from that is Casey. He's in a slump and didn't shoot well against UNLV and hit his first 3 last night and then went cold. He's become a better defender and is a good ball handler so we need him on the court. I feel he really becomes one dimensional if he primarily just shoots 3s. He's got a super quick release and can pull up and hit it really well. Need to start tapping in to that ability a bit closer in, which will create opportunities for others once Casey hits a few and starts drawing defenders and can also help get him going again from 3 when he does get an open look as well. Was really hoping to see Hunter and Burnette make some bigger contributions last night. Hopefully they'll come around once we start conference play. Can't rely on Larson and Bos to carry them every night.

If the Coyotes are going to be competitive in league play, they need to shoot the ball better. Period. Agree completely. We need to get more looks in the paint whether its layups, floaters, or pull up jumpers. Part of the problem we have is that opposing big men can collapse and then recover easily when we dont have a single productive post player, its a killer. just glad we were able to gut out a win shooting under 30% from the field. Thats abysmal.

Does anyone know really what the hell is wrong with Flack? From the crowd, he looks fine. No limps, nothing visible. I'm starting to question his toughness, but maybe there's something out there I'm not aware of....I'm sure there is, but really would like to know what it is.

I dont know specifics, but its a back injury, which unfortunately if not treated right can be a lingering and long lasting issue. I dont know if its a muscle, nerve, disc, whatever, but I think we are completely different team with him with the way teams guard us and defensively. If he does end up redshirting, we are in trouuuuuble during conference season.

In yesterday's chat, Mick said he'd be "shocked" if Flack plays this year. I also get the same impression when Coach Smith addresses the issue. It's my understanding there's a significant back issue, which isn't necessarily apparent seeing someone court side in street clothes. It's certainly a loss, but we've already demonstrated the capacity to be competitive without him. Our offense, by necessity, will continue to run through our guards. We need the big guys we do have available to continue to improve on offense and, certainly, be a presence defensively and on the glass.

fightsd--Great D causes shooting problems and turnovers.... I've never seen a defense keep a team shooting under 30% from the field. Many of them right under the bucket. Bad shooting is just bad shooting. I'll concede the turnover point, although I still think many of them were unforced.

I didn't see the game from the opening tip, however, I saw the contest as very well played by both sides (on the Defensive side, which is the side that matters most). Yes, there were TOs and missed shots, but they weren't uncontested, for the most part.
I didn't hear the Coaches post game comments, did they view it as poorly played?

Coach Smith wasn't happy with the performance according to his post game comments. I do worry about USD's ability to beat Summit teams if they are going to struggle so much with a team like Montana State. Hopefully the team will learn to play a little more consistant. One good game against Creighton, followed by a so-so performance against UNLV then a not so good performance against the Bobcats although a win. One good thing is that the Yotes finally figured out a way to win a close game down the stretch. Next up the Griz.

Good win against a bad team but as most will say a win is a win. The coyotes will not win at Montana if we perform the way we did last night! NDSU dominated the bobcats in Bozeman and we struggled to win at home! Montana is a much better team so we better get it together over the next few days. Bos was once again the best player on the court, Larson and Casey struggled in this game but they will be just fine. As I said before, need more production from the newcomers to be successful. Without Norris late in the game, we would have lost this one. Burnette was a no show and so was hunter! Both players are over rated in my opinion. Flack probably isn't returning due to health issues so those 2 guys need to step up if they are going to be starters! Take the win but Montana is going to be much tougher! Go yotes!
