Also, here's hoping Minnesota bounces back and beats a certain team north of here.

coyotefan, and I quote: "I bet the Gophers would not win the Summit if they were in it because they would actually have to play half those games on the road."
See also: "I do have to add that Minnesota is not a very good big 10 team and I don't expect them to be very competitive in their conference this year but that doesn't take much away from the Coyotes win today."
Either you or your other personality, SD4ever (and you just forgot who you logged in as) made a prediction as to future success based on talent with those statements.
Is a team's rpi not an indicator of future success based on past performance? I believe the answer is yes. As such I wasn't attacking your position, merely adding to it with additional information.
I feel yoteforever's pain.

I made a comment to someone over Thanksgiving that I thought SDSU could beat Minnesota this year with how bad the Gophers were. He didn't believe me. Now it probably won't happen because they'll definitely come pissed off on Tuesday. Congrats on the win. Good win for the Summit League.

Seriously Joe VG, in the future please get your radio broadcast bugs worked out ahead of time. You have cut out 3 times now down the stretch and I am listening via 106.3 on line and on my garage radio. Come on man, you're killing me. I can ASSURE you the most frustrated person on the planet was Joe. I've been in his chair when technology fails. Joe actually used his personal cell phone for the remainder of the game to make sure the many YOTES FANS got to hear the end. Not any fault of Joes AT ALL. All "The Barn" had for broadcast capability was a regular phone line. Great win for the Yotes!!!!

Thanks for the insight RJ. Joe does a great job and that was me sharing frustration in the moment. Miss the Kabooms. You'd be saying that a lot this year I think. =)

I feel yoteforever's pain. Talking about how I think the Gophers will do is not talking about their talent. They could be a team with ton's of talent that are not coached up or they could have mediocre talent but be coached up really well. I repeat, I did not talk about their talent so don't try to make it out like I did.

Was at the game Saturday just like I was at the football game between the Coyotes and Gophers a number of years ago. I guess if we schedule them again I'll have to make the trip! Not too big of a problem since I have family there.
Just a few comments:
The game was great! I kept thinking that at some point the Gophers would take the game in hand and make a run. Of course, they really didn't. The Yotes controlled this game and kept pushing their opponent all the way. With about 10 minutes left the crowd got into it a bit but the fight in our team was too much. We just never backed down and kept the pressure up. This was not a "fluke" win. Much of the game we were up 4-7 points and it was the Gophers who had to continually play catch-up.
Minnesota got a lot of foul shots toward the end of regulation, primarily due to their guards taking the dribble toward the basket. I kept thinking we should do that but the few times we did, the fouls were not called. Just speculation on my part but I wondered if we could have shut down their free-throw shooting opportunities if we had gone to a zone defense for a few plays. (?)
Is Minnesota that bad or were we that good? Future games will confirm this one way or the other but I feel the answer is somewhere in between. If we play with the passion exhibited in this game we will be difficult to beat. Our weaknesses are likely rebounding and to some extent, free throw shooting (at least for Burnette).
I've never, never been a "wait until next year" fan and believe we have the depth at guard to be a good team right now. If we can continue developing our taller players I think we can play (and beat) any team in our conference.

Is Minnesota that bad are we that good? Somewhere in the middle. We aren't about to run through the conference and win the Summit outright this season (maybe in SF) but Minnesota isn't about to go 0-18 in the Big Ten either. They will probably finish about 10th or 11th out of 14 their conference and it will remain a great win for a USD team that I assumed was still a year away from winning games like these.

I think the win was only a mild upset quite honestly. If the Coyotes would have played Minnesota directly after the season opening Northern Illinois tournament I would have called it a bigger upset. The Coyotes planted the seeds in the 2 weeks leading up to the Minnesota game. The Gophers may not have played their best but I think the Yotes had something to do with that. If you go to the Gopher Hole message board www.forums.gopherhole.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?3-Tubby-s-Barn-Basketball-Forum there is alot of talk about this game. Very few give the Coyotes much credit but there were a few mentions of the Coyotes out coaching their team. Right now Craig Smith is quite possibly a better coach than Richard Petino. I was able to watch both games out in California the prior weekend and I was very impressed with the Yotes during both of those games. The mid November Yotes wouldn't have won either one of them. I am just as impressed how they handled that road trip out west considering the travel to get there and the quality of opponent (somewhat). Minnesota was probably the better team compared Sac State and E Wash but the Coyotes had a short trip with only a one game week and had a large enough contingent of Coyote Fans to draw some inspiration despite the huge advantage of Williams Arena to the Gophers although it seemed like the home crowd had trouble getting up for the game. I agree with Yotes that Minnesota is probably in that 10 or 11 range in the Big Ten. I certainly don't think they are the worst team in the conference but most will be better than them. I hope for alot of reasons that Minnesota ends up being better than expected this year but obviously that remains to be seen. They are young so could make some strides during the year.

I think the Gophers will be pissed but I still think SDSU has a chance. The thing that worries me more is if Marshall will play. I heard that he has a stress fracture. I can't tell you if this information is correct but it is what I have heard. I was impressed with the Coyotes win over the Gophers. It would of been a fun game to watch.

Didn't watch the SDSU game but looks like Minnesota came out and got down early then decided to just pack it in. I hope Minnesota can pick it up so that this turns out to be two good wins for the Summit League.

Credit to the Jacks for basically blowing out the Gophers. The final score was not indicative of the game. The Jacks were up 20 for most of the game. I believe that the Summit League is right now stronger than they have ever been. This league is turning into a grind. I believe I saw that the Summit has now passed up the Missouri Valley in league RPI, and I do realise that RPI is a swear word to some.

They will be lucky to win 3 or 4 conference games this season. Pitino has his work cut out for him. He could be gone if they don't improve drastically next season. I hope they turn it around but I don't see it happening. They are a mess right now. BTW, nice win against UMKC. I'm still head scratching on how the Jacks lost there. The Summit it at the highest spot its ever been in the RPI rankings this season at #11. The conference season will be very entertaining.

Minn may be terrible, but beating them by 20 without Marshall is a solid win for the Jacks.
