Coyotes on the road to play Illinois at 2PM today, game is available on ESPN3. The men have won 6 of their last 7 games and have been rolling outside of that Bakersfield game last week (a game that likely set the game of basketball back about ten years).
I'm thinking Illinois might be right at Minnesota's level and we have a good chance to make it two-for-two against the Big Ten as long as we don't just lay an egg. Illinois has a 6-5 record and looking through their schedule their best win so far really looks to be a 6 point W over NDSU. The Milwaukee team we beat a couple days ago is probably better than Illinois is, good chance for a W today.
Go Yotes!

All I can say is that if USD wins this game today they are an incredible basketball team in so many ways. Does that mean they will win the Summit and make the NCAA tourney? I don't think so but IMO with a win today I think the Yotes should be considered the #2 power team in the conference. If they don't win they are still most definately a top half Summit team.
Will the Yotes ever lay an egg in a road game. Last time they did was second half against Kansas State. You would think the Yotes would be due for a bit of a clunker today but I wouldn't bet on it. My brain says Illinois by 10-15 but if this becomes a game decided in the last 2:00 I can't help but think the Coyotes will pull out another one.

55-36 Illinois at the half. The Illini have been red hot from outside hitting 9 threes in the first half. The Yotes defense hasn't been great but what can ya do when a team is that hot.

91-79 Illinois. Yotes were within 6 with less then 2 to go 84-78. Great effort at another BiG team.

The Coyotes were in an uphill battle all afternoon. Illinois just played too well and the Coyotes would have needed to be great to win considering how well I thought Illinois played on their home court. 14 three pointers on the road at a Big 10 team is next to impossible to overcome. I give the Coyotes credit for hanging tough under difficult circumstances but it still goes down as a loss.
Now it's onto UNLV which will be an even tougher task. They are just so long and athletic. A win over UNLV in their building would be probably 10 times more impressive than beating Minnesota.

We definitely could have won that one. Some dumb regrettable mistakes stick in my mind afterwards but you just can't let the other team start the game on a 14-0 run and get 55 in the first half. 46% on free throws also stings a bit. I would say we certainly got the Illini's best effort and still had a chance in the end.
Heck of a game for Burnette. 27 points is likely a career high. Time to pick things up and head out for a very tough game at UNLV.
