No doubt about it regarding DJ Davis and his improvement this year. He was an also ran last year and in less than one half of a season he is a major contributor now. Eric Robertson same thing. Since Smith has been coach he has gone from a very below average player to one of the most versatile bigs in the Summit. Starting with this years freshman class led by Jech and Hagedorn it wouldn't surprise me if they have a taste of the NCAA tourney by the time they graduate. I didn't realize this until I looked at the Jacks roster but they loose Marshall, Parks and Bittle after this year. For some reason I thought at least one of them was a freshman last year but I was wrong. There is no reason that the Coyotes with their continued development can't be considered one of the major threats to win the Summit in 2016 which is their first year in the new arena.
I think maybe you are talking about Marshall. He transferred in from Wisconsin so he hasn't played much. He had to sit out the first 10 games last year (until after the 1st semester) while sitting out a year. So he played most of last year and part of this year. This year, he has missed the last 6 games(starting with the Minnesota game). So he has really only played a little over 1 season with the Jacks. It sounds like he will be coming back this weekend and we will see if he can make it through the rest of the season.
Bittle is injured right now. He has sat out the last 2 games and they are hoping to get him back around January 18th. Bittle has been on the team for his whole career so I don't think you thought it was him.
Parks has played 2 full seasons. He is the only one of the three that has played the last two games. I don't remember if he missed a few games or not.
SDSU has a freshman that they are redshirting(Gentry). I wonder if now they are hoping that he is playing. He is short but really quick and fun to watch. Of course, we haven't seen him play much but in the exhibition games he made some really great passes. I assume they didn't think he would play much with Marshall, Parks, Bittle and MOFFETT all being seniors. Moffett has started at the PG and SF positions so far this season. They had those four seniors and King for the guard/SF positions so they redshirted Gentry. Cory Jacobsen is another senior guard but he is a walk-on and doesn't play much even thought SDSU only has 10 healthy bodies. He is player #9. He is the 4th guard/SF player they have right now though. They have had to play a PF at SF to make up for the lack of guards.
There will be a drop-off because you don't lose 3 (pre-season) 1st team all conference players and not have a drop-off but at least King is getting a lot more playing time. I think they will try to get a juco/transfer for next season but Nagy used to not do much of that. Styler Flatten (Clark- Willow Lake) has been injured all season, too. He was injured some of last year to so I don't know if he will amount to much at the SF position. He is long and athletic but hasn't played much at the college level. If he was healthy this year, he would be getting a lot of experience with 2 starters out injured.
