The pressure gauge just got turned up on the Coyotes. Western Illinois beat Omaha tonight in MaComb 83-76 in Men's basketball. What this does is give the Leathernecks the temporary tie breaker against the Yotes assuming they defeat USD at home to end the year. Basically if the teams lose out from here until the end of the season and Western beats the Yotes at home the Coyotes will miss the Summit League Tourney. The tie breakers are determined by record first then by head to head. If head to head is tied it goes by how each team did vs every other team in the Summit from top to bottom. A win vs Omaha assuming Omaha finished high would give the Necks the advantage they would need. The Yotes could threaten that tie breaker if they beat a top Summit Team such as IPFW at home on Thursday. '

Coyotes remaining schedule
vs IPFW vs ORU - winnable vs NDSU - borderline at SDSU - loss vs Den - winnable at IPUI - probable loss at WIU - yikes
Western Illinois remaining schedule
at Den - never know at ORU - never know at NDSU - probably loss vs SDSU - probably loss vs IPFW - never know vs USD - yikes
The schedules are fairly close but USD's chances to pull away might come in the next couple of weeks. Western Illinois can easily gain confidence with their win over Omaha and they finish with their last 3 at home whereas the Yotes finish on the road for their last 2. Western could conceivably be 2 games back with 2 to go and have a realistic chance to pull it off. The Coyotes need to get desperate now and try to climb over Denver and ORU and both of those teams are at home. If the Yotes snap out of it they could very well finish 6th which would be a good spot IMO. If they don't, well it could be a long bus ride home from MaComb on February 27th.

Didn't see anything wrong with my update, just stating the actual situation that the Yotes are currently in. A little confused with your response.

I'll be honest I read little of your posts. I want to call you a horrible fan and supporter but you hardly come off as either. Fans don't look to future games and broadcast that they expect their team to lose with the frequency you do. Fans hope for the best, may get upset with their team at times, but at least hold some optimism for future contests. I open up your posts and always see stuff about your predicting we lose. It's so old and I ask that you just stop.

I make simple predictions with what I actually think is going to happen and if that is a loss I say it like I see it. I don't really care if anyone gets offended by it because it is a prediction not a desire. If that offends you I am sorry but I don't think the Yotes are the kind of team right now that is going to go into Frost and pull off a win. They probably won't win at IUPUI either. Just the way it is pal. The team is disappearing and I am not gonna act like it is not happening to appease a handful of fans. The Yotes just need to get back to playing good basketball and fight for the #6 seed to get into a favorable draw. At this point there aren't any huge signs that are pointing in the right direction.

I have no problem with this post. Fact is we need to play with some urgency, especially with 3 in a row at home. I hope we have refined some things during this week. It would be really nice if we could have some sort of rotation or consistency from our big men. As I typed that I realized how ironic it was. Last year, I was always howling, "Just wait until we have some bigs". Now, I complain we dont have enough minutes to plug them all in in a way that makes sense. With all that being said, I still believe that with our player personnel and our staff, we can beat anyone in Sioux Falls. Would be nice if we went out and ended all this talk this weekend.

State #12 seed loses to Stanford #4 on Stanford's floor by one 66-65. Stanford is not as good as the Stanford team USD faced two years ago but still a good effort by State. Lady Coyotes beat Creighton of the Big East in the dome and Minnesota of the Big 10 on their floor even with their first team All-American guard to advance to the Sweet 16 of the WNIT. Also interesting to note that tonight Washington #7 seed beat Maryland the #2 seed to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Coyotes lost to Washington by 13 early in the season after leading most of the game. Just a few examples of why the Summit should have had two qualifiers this year for the NCAA. Hopefully they will get two in the future. The problem is some of the "big name" programs i.e. Stanford, etc have the name recognition that helps them get selected even though their teams aren't always as strong as in past years.
