Womens Scores from 12/30/15
NDSU 52 Omaha 77
SDSU 76 Denver 39
Mens Scores
Oral Roberts 84 IPFW 90
No surprises on the Women's side but what in the heck is going on in Fargo with women's basketball. The Bison aren't just bad they are embarrassing. The Jacks pounded on a very bad Denver team that was very respectable last year. Denver has just shown nothing all non conference season long and it bleeds right into Summit play.
On the men's side the Oral Roberts loss puts USD in an intriguing situation right off the bat. The Coyotes absolutely must take care of business on New Years day against IUPUI. They are one of the only games in the league where a win is an absolute must for the upper echelon teams to get. Just cannot lose to the Jags at home and be considered for that upper tier this year. If the Yotes can ever figure out how to play well at home and get past this game it sets up a game in Tulsa on Sunday that becomes a big early swing game for these clubs. Oral Roberts should play pretty damn well on their home floor to avoid the 0-2 start in the league. On the other hand if the Yotes can get a win and could take a 2 game lead on ORU that would bode well for their chances to finish ahead of the Eagles by the end of the Summit race. I never like to get too far ahead of the game but the Yotes need to keep their eye on the prize and get it focused on that prize from the very get go and that is to stay in serious contention for the league hardware or at least a 2 or 3 seed by March.

I'm not sure one game into the conference season is a great time to be worried about seeding and pecking order just yet. Oral lost a road game to a team that is now 11-4. Heck, you could go the other way and argue IPFW might be States biggest challenger. I do agree the Yotes need to be better at home, but lets start crunching the numbers on seeding in Frebruary.

Didn't we lose our conference opener at home against Omaha last year? A bad loss to start conference play wouldn't be the end of the season, but let's just win and not talk about that.

The Omaha loss was not a great start to the season along with some of the other home losses as well and that has alot to do with why the Yotes didn't finish higher in the league last year. Do the Coyotes have to beat Oral Roberts on Sunday, of course they do not but if we want to set our expectations on being a top 3 Summit team this year that would be a heck of a way to get a leg up on some teams with a big road win. The Coyotes proved that they were a very capable team to finish very high in this conference. Gotta take care of an IUPUI team that probably won't be as comfortable of a game as it should be. Win that one and show Oral Roberts that last years win down in Tulsa was no fluke.

1/3/15 Updates
Women's
Oral Roberts 52 at IUPUI 47, bad loss for the Jaguars, will they be the #3 Summit Team? Western Illinois 66 at Omaha 79, Omaha could make a run at the top half of the league this year. SDSU at NDSU Jacks won by about 20 but it took a huge late run to get a comfortable win
Men's
Denver 49 at NDSU 75, a bit of a surprising margin of victory Western Illinois 59 at SDSU 63, Jacks have not had an easy go of it so far at home IUPUI 59 at Omaha 66, 3:09 left in in 2nd half. USD at Oral Roberts at 7PM

Regarding #3 on the Women's side of the league - There is a lot of season left but UNO may just be the team behind the SD schools. There seems to be a very large gap between 1-2 and the rest of the pack this year though.

Scores from 1/7/15
Men
Jacks fall at IUPUI 74-67 Omaha ahead in Fargo 82-70 with under 5:00 to go
Looks like the Men's side is truly anyone's conference. IPFW and Omaha look like the strongest teams so far based on league play to this point.

91-82 Omaha wins and goes to 3-0 in the Summit. Think that game in Vermillion might have some additional intrigue. Old rival threatening to pass up USD in the men's game. I think it's safe to say that Saturday's game is starting to take on a bit of a "must win" feel to it. If the Yotes don't pick up the win they will begin to lose touch with the league leaders after just 4 games. Win and it's right back in the mix in what looks like a very parody filled league. Omaha has a road win under their belt now which is something IPFW has yet to have a chance to do.

I would love to hear some of the regular Wabbit posters on here try and defend the loss to IUPUI. On the bunny board they were tearing USD apart for their loss to the Jags questioning if our conference affiliation should be pulled because it was such an embarrassing loss.

I would go back to the SDSU board and re-read that thread. No one was bashing USD for losing to IUPUI or that USD should be pulled away from the Summit because of the loss. Some were saying it wasn't a good loss since it was at the dome. You can't lose at home and be one of the top teams. There are no pushover teams this year on the men's side. It will be nice once Bittle and Flatten get back from their injuries. SDSU's offense can't function without Bittle.

For USD, it was a crappy loss magnified by the fact it was at home. For SDSU, they played like dump and didnt have one of their top 3 players. Neither loss is great, but the loss definitely hurt the Yotes worse.

Women's updates for 1/16/15
IFW 59 at Oral Roberts 61, not pretty for the Eagles but they are in 2nd in the league NDSU at IUPUI tonight
Being at 4-1 in the league that Yotes may need to beat Oral Roberts to be able to finish ahead of them in the standing by the end of the year.
Men's updates IPFW 106 at Omaha 101 in Overtime, the Mavericks may had been undefeated in the Summit but they have been playing with fire. They have had to come back in the second half from large deficits in 2 of their games already and did it again today. This time they got burned in OT. Omaha relies too much on scoring due to their pressure. It's not something that a team wants to have to rely on game in and game out. Omaha is a likely candidate for a second half of the league fade. Both of these teams lead the league at 4-1.
Denver 61 at IUPUI 76, impressive start to the league by the Jags at 4-2. We can no longer except them to be a contender to miss the Summit Tourney.
SDSU 57, NDSU 68, The Jacks have really impressed in only one of their games so far against IPFW. They have lost both of their road games and have squeeked by in 2 of their 3 home games. I am sure this is not the start that they were looking for. NDSU on the other hand seems to be over looked alot lately. They are suddenly 3-2 in the league and right back in it.
Oral Roberts at Western Illinois and it is 8-5 Western early. If the Leathernecks lose this game they will be the team early to most likely be in position to finish 9th.
For the Coyotes they may not look real daunting right now but due to league parity they could have as good of a chance in Sioux Falls as anyone provided they get back to playing good basketball. The goal is to simply starting playing better, more confidently and more aggressive more often. Just get into the opposite bracket of SDSU this year.

Certainly no dominant team this year but like half the league looks to be jockeying for the top spot. No slouches on the schedule.

Oral Roberts beat Western 77-68 at Western. The game in Vermillion on Wednesday hosting WIU will be to stay out of last place. Who would have thought after the non conference that we would be saying that.

They start the season off beating Wisconsin (NCAA Runner-up last year) on the road, win their next 4 to start off 5-0, split their next 4 games, and then lose 7 straight.
