Not one person cared enough to start a thread on this one today. Today's game is simply unacceptable and a game that a team can't just give away on their home court. Unfortunately I was unable to be able to follow along because of other obligations. Coach Smith has gone a good job with this team but it's time to get this home mess straightened out immediately because it is costing the Coyotes and has been now for a year and a half. The road wins lose a lot of luster if the team continuously gives back the momentum on their home court. There is no way the Coyotes can become the program they want to be without figuring out this puzzling trend. Apparently the Jags were beating the Yotes consistently inside according to what I was told. IUPUI won the rebounding battle 41-34 and that is the biggest statistic of pure desire. IUPUI shot 50% to USD's 40% so when getting out shot that badly and losing out on the boards is not going to bode well.
Now will the Coyotes respond in Tulsa on Sunday night. Even if the Coyotes play a good game they may not come out on top so losing to IUPUI at home is treading on very thin ice and this puts the Yotes absolutely one game down to the entire rest of the league. The game after Oral Roberts is on Wednesday at IPFW so if the road success does not continue the Coyotes could very easily be 0-3 and pretty much out of the conversation for the 2 or 3 seed unless a miraculous turnaround is made. I am not a happy camper at all about the game today and coach Smith and everyone else in that locker room better feel sick to their stomach after this one.

Knock me over with a feather on the above post. i can't believe he would post something negative.
Once again the criticism comes from someone not there, obligation or not. Some of us forfeited New Years Day bowl games to be there. Anyway, pure and simple we played pathetically. That's it in a nutshell. It happens.
I will say this. Anyone that truly believes we have a team that can contend for a title this year is either hugely optimistic, or don't understand basketball a whole lot. Coach Smith and his staff have over achieved thus far. And he will be the first one to tell you we are a year away. Getting out rebounded is going to happen. Our BIGS are SMALL. Right now we have to give up a minimum of 3" per player with the starters. I haven't even looked at statistics each game, but my guess is we have been out rebounded most games. Just a guess. Sometimes it's just physics. Taller teams should get more rebounds. Yesterday we didn't hustle like we normally do. Energy was low, crowd was poor, and there just wasn't much energy.
However, that being said, if anyone thinks this team has an issue with effort, you are wrong Craig Smith has coached these guys up, just like last year. The talent he inherited was not good. Once again, it takes time and patience to build an elite program. Our young kids, Jech and Hagedorn I think are going to be awfully good. I will admit I understand football more than basketball but I for one think we are on track to building a winning program. One posters outcry about stopping a trend of losing at home sounds a lot like a certain posters cries of football can't win on the road. The more you talk about it, the bigger the issue becomes.
I know I know, just another case of me accepting mediocrity, but I guess I'm just not all that competitive. I happen to be in the camp that some days are just plain $hitty, and yesterday was one of them. But I also know better to not criticize something I know nothing about. Happy New Year

We are a year away and playing with less talent and experience than basically all of our opponents. Through great coaching and effort we will win a lot of games that we otherwise wouldn't but I believe that also leaves is prone to have other games where we just lay an egg and lose in embarrassing fashion. The sky is not falling, even if we somehow went 6-10 in Summit play the sky wouldn't be falling. Have to take the growing pains as they come, learn from them, then move on to the next opponent. Started off conference play with a crap loss to UNO last year and instantly rebounded. Lots of games left and an upper seed in Sioux Falls is still well within reach.

My feeling was also that this could be a transition year for the program but sometimes expectations rise and I think they should after the non conference season. The Coyotes played many good games against good teams and that is exactly why there should be wide spread disappointment that the Coyotes lost at home to IUPUI. Even if this year is considered a down year the team should still have expected to beat the Jaguars on their home court. Last year the home play cost the Coyotes the 2 or 3 seed at the tourney and a better chance to get to the Summit Championship game. We are seeing the same trend this year as well. Regardless of how talented anyone thinks the Coyotes are that doesn't forgive yesterday's loss. The point is this home trend has to stop soon.

Some nights the shots don't fall and yesterday was one of those days. There were a few bright spots with our freshman. They will only get better. Anyone have any idea why Flack hasn't played the last 2 games? He played a few minutes at UNLV but nothing since.

I dont know if 1 game out of 8 can be considered a trend. Lose our next game to UNO and then it might be headed in that direction. Every game, home or away is going to be a battle for every team in the Summit League.
