Golfingyote in my opinion, is right on the money. This years team is truly one of those teams that could beat anybody, and lose to anyone. Basketball, more than any other sport, is that way. USD is very dangerous. I think you will see evidence of that these next two games. When they hired Coach Smith, I was not in favor of the hire, simply because there was another candidate I prefrrd, albeit from a selfish standpoint. And I think the guy I wanted would have done a bang up job. But anyone that doesn't think Craig Smith isn't one hell of a coach and recruiter has blinders on. Herbster hired the perfect guy for the job. I have said this in the football forum, and I'll say it here...."building a program the right way takes time". Two years is a short period of time. The man loves the U, and he and his staff are tireless recruiters. Get off his rear end, he will get it done. I predict they will make the tournament and win at least one game. If they win two, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the ones playing them in the finals. Especially if they wear blue. Talk about a choke collar going around their necks. Who exactly was that candidate that you said your preferred to Smith. I believe YF was quite vocal in his support for TJ Otzelberger (sp?), the assistant from Iowa State. Seemed like a very strong candidate but there were a few of those in our search.

It wouldn't be appropriate or right to name him for obvious reasons. But make no mistake that I feel Craig Smith is the right guy for the job.
To be fair, I was in favor of TJ prior to Joey James being named interim.

Speaking of James he isn't quite able to get Concordia-St. Paul over the top. They have stuggled quite a bit and are towards the bottom of the NSIC at this time. Hopefully he can get them turned around but not to be the case just yet.

Speaking of James he isn't quite able to get Concordia-St. Paul over the top. They have stuggled quite a bit and are towards the bottom of the NSIC at this time. Hopefully he can get them turned around but not to be the case just yet. In his defense, their best player, Nuni Omot (a freak athlete who would've been their best player for 3 years and would've easily been a Player of the Year candidate by his junior season), pulled a Van Ginkel and transferred to Indian Hills Community College this offseason in hopes of jumping to the D1 level without having to sit a year. Which paid off, as he had offers from several D1s and accepted a scholarship from Baylor this fall before the season even started at Indian Hills. He'll be at Baylor for two years starting next season. All that's not to say CSP couldn't be better this year than they have been so far (they really should be better than their record indicates), but it certainly doesn't help when the guy you're planning to build your team around for the next three years (a clear D1 talent who had offers/interest from Baylor, St. John's, and a handful of others) bails somewhat without warning.
