Game is on Midco now. Yotes could use a win tonight.

Wow what a heart breaker! USD showed their guts tonight but didn't have enough. I just wish they could put a while game together. 20 good minutes can't make up for a lack luster performance in the other 20 minutes. I think that is the most frustrating thing about the Yotes this year. They have yet to put together a whole performance.

Yotes rallied from 16 down in the second half to having the ball trailing by 1 with about 14 seconds. Casey missed a jumper with about 8 left, Norris threw the ball of an NDSU player while falling out of bounds to give USD one last shot. McClelland drove the lane, the ball bounced off the backboard, rim, the backboard again, and fell off. NDSU wins. Helluva comeback effort, unfortunately came up short.

Play two halves and this is a win. Regular season is looking pretty well shot, hope we can learn to put it all together in Sioux Falls when it matters most.

I hate to be the one to point it out, but only 8 teams will qualify for the SL Tournament out of the 9 teams in the league this year. Right now we're 8th at 1-4, just ahead of WIU at 0-3, who will host Denver (1-3) tomorrow. If we don't start winning some of these games we could risk not even making it to Sioux Falls.

There is still a lot of season left, but next Wednesday's game against the Leathernecks a is very close to being a must win. We have a week off until that game and the week off is definitely coming at a good time.

New change with UNO being eligible now, but even playing at our worst it seems very unlikely that we actually finish 9th. A 6 seed is beginning to be one that I would gladly accept.

“If I didn’t, with every ounce of fiber in my bones, believe in the University of South Dakota and everything that it entails, I wouldn’t be here,” Smith told the crowd of media and fans. “I firmly believe we’re going to make a major, major splash in Division I basketball, and certainly the Summit League, in the very, very near future.”
Isn't a splash what happens when something falls hard and fast into water? 8th is looking likely which means a QF against the No 1 seed.

The Yotes have started league play pretty slowly. You need to believe in the process. Smith has done a great job so far and has some recruits coming in that look like could be very good players in the Summit. Many of those players are either Freshman or transfers sitting out this year. The Yotes have won some tough games against some solid out of conference opponents. This team has the talent to beat any team in the Summit. Don't over-react and let's see what happens this year, and those to come.

Wow. Oblivious to the program much? Look at the overhaul the roster has had the last 2 years. Even with the amount of bodies directed toward the 16-17 season, Smith has managed to put a pretty good product on the court this year. The Yotes are a few posessions from being right in the middle of the league. If we end up as the 8 seed, you can bet the 1 seed will not be thrilled to be seeing us first round in SF.

This year is shaping up to be less successful than last year, which is what I initially expected before the year. Next season has been the one that I anticipated us becoming contenders for the title.

Golfingyote in my opinion, is right on the money. This years team is truly one of those teams that could beat anybody, and lose to anyone. Basketball, more than any other sport, is that way. USD is very dangerous. I think you will see evidence of that these next two games.
When they hired Coach Smith, I was not in favor of the hire, simply because there was another candidate I prefrrd, albeit from a selfish standpoint. And I think the guy I wanted would have done a bang up job. But anyone that doesn't think Craig Smith isn't one hell of a coach and recruiter has blinders on. Herbster hired the perfect guy for the job. I have said this in the football forum, and I'll say it here...."building a program the right way takes time". Two years is a short period of time. The man loves the U, and he and his staff are tireless recruiters. Get off his rear end, he will get it done.
I predict they will make the tournament and win at least one game. If they win two, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the ones playing them in the finals. Especially if they wear blue. Talk about a choke collar going around their necks.

12 more games before the tournament. A lot of basketball to be played. Granted, we have to win enough games to make the tournament, but what really matters in this league is how well are you playing at the end of the year. The current roster is in an odd place right now. We have a new JUCO starter, two freshman playing a ton of minutes and two past key contributors that are coming off of injury right when conference play started.
Everybody wants a winner, not the least of which is Coach Smith, but we are developing players and chemistry. Give it time.
Next season is our year, but I think teams will be afraid to play us by tournament time. By that point we will have great depth down low and seasoned guards. I think we are seeing solid development from Shy and Davis. I am frustrated that Burnette appears to have plateaued. I think that Norris and Casey are doing everything they can within their physical limitations. Robertson, for all of the doubting I have put on him, continues to play his heart out - Mr. GATA. The freshman are doing what freshman do - peaks and valleys.

Agreed. Anyone who followed the men the last couple years at all knows this year was not going to be the year it happened. We have 3 transfers sitting out from Iowa, Colorado State, and Air Force and the 2 prized recruits from Smith's first real recruiting class are true freshman. There is no doubt both Hagedorn and Jech are all that was advertised. They look the part now with very little time working on skill development and gaining some size If they end next year with a losing record then I will worry.
