Yotes are playing very mediocre basketball again and trail 18-15 at the under 8:00 timeout. I don't know what it is with this club but they just don't look like the same team from earlier in the year. The passing and ability to score inside is becoming less and less of a factor with the Coyotes offense.

37-32 Western Illinois at half. This South Dakota team looks nowhere close to a team ready to snap out of the doldrums. Very sloppy play and many mental lapses in that half. Very bad turnovers. Guys are just having balls slip out of their possession and out of bounds. What happened to the smooth offense for the Coyotes. They used to be so good at getting to the basket but now look clumsy trying to get there. I think it's more of a mental thing right now than a lack of talent. The talent on this team may not be the best in the Summit but it's comparable to the other teams. If I am coach Smith I play the 4 guards and do some pressing. Take advantage of some of that depth. Instead of waiting to be down 15 to press why not start the press when the game is tied in the effort to get a 15 point lead out of it. It doesn't have to be used just to catch up. This team has regressed throughout the season, no question.
20 more minutes and this team in position to be sitting in Vermillion on March 5th and 6th. With the sense of urgency seemingly being more and more apparent to be needed is as much as the urgency is lacking.

Yotes win 76-67. Finally the Yotes started playing inspirational basketball again. Just in time to stay out of the Summit Cellar. That 29-5 run was the story of the game.

Couple of thoughts.
first and foremost, that run in the second half, espcially Kasperbauers personal run, was unbelievable to watch. Straight fire and some really good team D mixed in. Secondly, I think if we can get production like that from Flack and Sparks we are a completely different team. Flack had a nice impact on both ends and Sparks is our best defending/rebounding big man in my mind. It is quite the luxury to have 5 bigs capable of playing 20+ minutes a game when called on. The 2 freshmen bigs seem to be in a little slump, but hopefully they can see the ball go in the hoop and bust out of it. Big 3 game stretch coming up. Go Yotes!

Actually, for basketball I don't mind CF giving game updates in the thread. I'm pretty busy in the winter and am unable to watch many games but I do read the game recaps on this board the next day so I can get an idea of how the game unfolded and the results. Post game analysis by the basketball crew on this board is also a good read and gives a person a chance to keep following the team. I actually prefer reading the different fan reactions and perspectives on the game than reading a newspaper account. It's also good foe Coyote fans who are spread across the country and this is their only means to follow Coyote athletics in-depth.

You know you can watch the game without having a thread conversation with yourself.... right? Coyotes Live via GoYotes.com and Chromecast are a great combination for watching games that I am not able to attend and are not broadcast by MidcoSN. Unlike many schools, all basketball games are available at no charge. Audio for all road games, along with the Monday coaches show are also streamed live. Also all of the above, along with Midco's Coyotes Corner, are archived and available for watching on demand. A big thank you to the Coyotes athletic department for making all this available.

My biggest take away from the night was the play of Tyler Flack. He is starting to look like his old self out there again. He was jumping to challenge shots and flying to the ball. He is going to be a big help on the defensive end in the conference grind. I think his is finally starting to feel comfortable back out on the floor and become comfortable with his teammates.

I agree golfingyote. There were numerous times we saw the Flack from 2 years ago. Very talented and so athletic for a big man. He may be the missing piece to put it all together. I see his minutes growing in the next couple weeks and eventually can see him in the starting lineup at the end of the year.
coyotefan post whatever you want. I like having something to read at work when I'm bored.

You know you can watch the game without having a thread conversation with yourself.... right? God have mercy on the soul of anyone that wants to actually start a discussion and promote a discussion on Coyote Athletics. Wouldn't want to have any of those kinds of posters around here. Gotta keeps things a little quieter.
