USD kicked off the tournament with a 19 point win over Denver. Not exactly a strong showing but it was good to see us hold Denver to a low score.

I think the red vs blue ratio is narrowing just a bit with the fans in the crowd. I know the Jacks game wasn't until 2:30 but most of their fans were there by the end of the Coyote game. The Coyotes focus on defense made their offensive woes relatively simple to overcome. Offense comes and goes but defense with the effort needed to execute it can be something that can always be relied upon. Obviously the game was close especially after the first quarter but the depth of the Yotes makes it hard for a team to stay with them. For an entire game it will also be difficult for other teams to match their energy because of their depth when the third game in three days comes calling on Tuesday. Hopefully the Coyotes will be there and the depth will make a difference throughout that game. The Coyotes showed a pressure look to them prior to Denver getting to half court so if needed I would like to see that part of their arsenal come out again throughout the tournament.
After the third quarter the Coyotes had a comfortable 20 point lead and if they so desired they could have kept their best players in the game and won by 30 but the Yotes aren't playing for one game but are playing for what it takes to cut the nets down in the end. Many of the reserves finished out the last 5:00. I was a little concerned today, but ONLY a little. The red wave moves on.

What will it be Monday 50/50? USD has a long ways to go to match what SDSU brings. It will be closer to 70-30.

First half between SDSU/Omaha winding down. State up big. More a product of Omaha not playing defense. State's just swinging the ball around the perimeter of that zone and getting open 3 looks. Nothing earth-shattering here. And they shot lights out in the first quarter. Will be much tougher for that offense to operate against our man defense tomorrow.
