well not yet but they are up 64-37 with under 8:00 to go in the Semi-Finals. I tend to want to cheer for USF over Augie but gotta hand it to the Vikings as they are playing for a national title which is something the Coyotes under Boot's were never able to do. I think it is fair to say that the Vikes have every right to claim they are the best college basketball team in South Dakota. Some may disagree including many Jacks fans but Augustana is winning at the Elite 8 without National Player of the year Dan Janzen. That is a very impressive feat to pull off. They will play Lincoln Memorial who is coming off a 103-102 win in their semi finals. The Elite 8 re seeds their final 8 after they get to the elite 8, something they never did when the Yotes were in D2. The 1 and 2 seeds are playing for all the marbles.
Kudos to the Augustana Men's Basketball team as this is a once in a century type team for their program.

This is the first time that a former NCC team has played for the national title since 1985 when the Jacks lost that game by one on what I believe was a half court shot. That is one long drought finally broken by Augustana. The only two NCC teams to win a national title were USD in 1958 and SDSU in 1963. Augustana can join that list on Saturday and make it a South Dakota sweep of NCC national titles. Of course the NCC is extinct but should never be forgotten.
I think Augustana may have to play their best game they have played in the last two years to get by Lincoln Memorial who is 34-2 and won 24 in a row. They look pretty athletic and are either the highest or second highest scoring team in D2. Augie is not chopped liver at 33-2 themselves. Janzen better figure out a way to miraculously heal in less than 2 days because I don't know how Augie can get by another one of these elite level games without him. It would be too bad if he couldn't play and Augie couldn't come through without him.
I am not gonna miss this one on Saturday afternoon. If it's like it was in the past it will be on CBS prior to the D1 elite 8 games.
It really has been a pretty incredible year for alot of local college basketball teams. Kind of a history making type of a year collectively.

Kind of a history making type of a year collectively. While the Vikes did win their Elite Eight game without Jansen (who was named NABC Men's Basketball National Player of the Year today), he was able to give us some minutes tonight. He actually came in and scored 8 straight (a floater and two 3s) and ended up leading all scorers with 13 at the half. He sat a lot of the 2nd half because we were up 20 and he didn't need to play (plus, according to the post-game interview, his injury started to tighten up), but it was good to have him come in when he did and he gave us a boost when we got off to a slow start. Should be a fun game on Saturday, win or lose. Both teams that like to run and gun. Hopefully the Vikes have enough in the tank to make it happen.

I did not know Jansen had played in the game tonight. I thought he was ruled out but I guess not. His health will immensely help the Vikings as they will need to be on full cylinders to take hope the title.

Words I didn't think I would ever say "Go Augie!"
I agree - they would almost certainly win a 2-out-of-3 series with any of the SD basketball teams. That alone is impressive, much less the chance for a national title.

It is cool to see them have a chance at a national title. Not something that happens every day and very hard to do. They are in the same boat as USD with crap coverage by the local media. I wish there would be more stories and coverage about this right now.

As much as I'm not a Coyote fan, it's fun to watch Seekamp and the rest of the women stick it to the NCAA for not giving them an at-large tourney bid. Hope they can keep things rolling. Of course, it's a lot easier for me to cheer for the local non-Augie women's teams than the local non-Augie men's teams, seeing as I'm not quite as invested in our women's team and consequently don't have to worry about women's recruiting battles and competing for media attention with USD and SDSU as much as it happens on the men's side.

Congrats and good luck to the Augie men. In regard to local media coverage, Augie could win the national DII title and the Lady Yotes could win the WNIT and both would still be relegated to the 2nd or 3rd page of the Argus sport page while they run a front page story of the Wabbits recruiting players from the new swine research facility or dairy barn on campus.

Just because they beat Iowa in an exhibition game before the season actually started doesn't mean a whole lot. Have Augie go play them again right now. I bet there will be a little difference. Not taking anything away from that win. There is still a reason why they are D2. That's not saying they can't compete with some lower D1 schools cause they can. Augie vs USD men on the other hand is pretty intriguing considering how bad the yotes were this year.

sandakst--What a troll!! If the USD men were so bad this year why could the San Diego State wrabbits (aka everything eats a jackwrabbit) only win by 4 in the Dome? Also the Yotes had 2 players leave the team in the middle of the year. Any bets on the wrabbit men and USD for the fall???

I haven't watched Augie and never catch D2 basketball, but I find it just so incredibly hard to believe their team this year would amount to much of anything in the Summit League. Perhaps my perceptions are off but D2 just aint D1.

Perhaps my perceptions are off but D2 just aint D1. I think it is safe to say typical D2 isn't typical D1. However, we are not talking about typical anything. Augie is some crazy figure like 60-4 over the past 2 years with players that could have played D1, but didn't. And - I know this will offend some - the Summit is on the bottom half of 'typical D1'. So, when NDSU FB beats Iowa St. that is taking elite FCS over lower-tier FBS, and the same applies here. I believe even the rabbits beat writer has conceded something similar.

USD men were not good this year. Sorry you can't see that.
