This seems to be a matchup of athletisism and speed against size and strength. Even though the Vikings like to play up tempo that is one monster I am not sure they should be willing to take on. They would be better off slowing the game down and making it a tough half court battle. If it turns out to be a track meet I will take Lincoln Memorial by 15. If it comes down to a tight finish decided in the last minute I like the Vikings to hit the clutch shots down the stetch to take home the crown. I will pick the Railsplitters (love that name) 92-77 Yeah, athleticism isn't exactly the ideal strength we want to face in an opponent. That being said, I hope we keep it closer than 15 today.

Looks like Auggie has this one just about wrapped up. My thoughts:
1) That Jansen is a friggin baby. The constant whining is embarrassing
2) Augustana would win a couple games in the Summit, but that's about it. USD would probably beat this team more often than not but Augustana wouldn't just be run out of the gym.

Augie has played second fiddle in the NCC for so long but now they are the true champions something most NCC teams couldn't come close to doing on a national level. The elite 8 is traditionally as far it got for most NCC teams but Augie reversed that trend. They never allowed Lincoln Memorial to get into their game but it was apparent throughout that the Vikings were simply the better team.
Let's stop belittling the Vikings as the would be a formidable Summit team and would take the Coyotes to the woodshed. But let that spur on the Yotes as this year shows just how far they need to still go. Time to stop messing around for USD hoops and time to step up their game.
The bottom line is congratulations to the Vikings for a hell of a run.

If that's all you took out of this game (and season) for Augie, I doubt anyone is going to be able to change your mind about it. For all I know, you're probably right. Either way, congrats to the Vikes on a big win. The university definitely got plenty of exposure over the past few days/weeks, and particularly these past two hours. Exciting stuff.

Congrats to Augie! Happy for them. They played well. Although I do agree Jansen was a cry baby often today.

Also THIS year I do think Augie splits with both SDSU and USD. If they can beat Iowa they can play THIS year with any Summit team except probably Omaha and IPFW. Those two were too athletic. State fans probably wonder why I didn't include them with Ft Wayne and Omaha, well the answer is obvious size. Augie big men are way better than SDSU. SDSU guards are way better than Augie.

Good turn out of Augustana fans in Texas today. They probably had double the Lincoln Memorial contingent. I would rather have a winning team with a cry baby on it, than a losing team without one.

Interestingly enough this type of a game today will get the Augie figure heads talking. If there was ever a time to cash the momentum in for a run at the Summit's 10th team this may be it. It would take either dropping football or moving it to non scholarship but is there a better geographic fit for the Summit than Sioux Falls, SD. Their women's team would be a bit behind but I don't think it would take much for them to get to be mid level Summit sometime rather soon. Not saying this would happen, not saying Augie would want it to happen, not saying the Summit would want it to happen but it does make for some interesting discussion.

Schilling and Richter could hold their own in the Summit and Jansen would probably battle Daum for the best big man in the league.

They beat Iowa in a preseason exhibition game. If the game counts towards Iowa's record and they give a full effort that one isn't even remotely competitive.

Augustana to the Summit? Alright CF, thanks for reminding me to never put much thought into your posts. Taking the top prize at D2 is fantastic for them and I'm happy to see a local team do it but the notion of Augustana going D1 is just outlandish.

Congrats to Augie on being DII Nat Champs. They played really well today. As far as Augie being competitive this year in the Summit, who cares. Augie isn't gonna play anymore bball this year, the bunnies and Yotes aren't suit up anymore this year... you can speculate the "what ifs" all you want. Keep in mind, "IF" worms had machine guns, birds wouldn't mess with them. Let the Vikings enjoy their title for what it is. They represented themselves, their school, and SD well today.

Well IUPUI and IPFW are in D1 and no one gives a crap about them but they are still in D1 and still in the Summit. Augie would bring in another couple of thousand fans to the Summit Tourney. If Augie had the will they just would need the Summit to give them the way. It may not happen but it's certainly not outlandish.
