The attached pages from the report prepared by Collegiate Consulting to assist Idaho in their decision regarding what to do with football lays out some interesting speculation.

Interesting... Thanks for posting that... Much to ponder after reading that... Would leave USD playing catch up again if State College and NDSU left the MVFC... Anyone think our Admin would consider making the jump to FBS in the future?

Not that surprising. I don't think the MVC has expressed much interest in those schools to my knowledge. Here's the pertinent quote from the article:
Unless that is a typo, pretty much confirms a lack of interest in the WAC and Big Sky.

The more interesting part to me is that when we were invited to the Big Sky years ago it appears the ultimate destination was going to be in a Big Sky/WAC FBS conference with UND, Montana, Montana State, Cal Poly, UNA, Idaho, and NMSU. Wowzer. While the MVFC is clearly a great FCS conference you have to wonder what could have been, or maybe could still be someday.
From the report:
Big Sky Conference/Western Athletic Conference
Three years ago, Big Sky Commissioner Doug Fullerton and WAC Commissioner Jeff Hurd visited about the possibility of combining the two conferences, and having part of the league participate in FBS and the remainder in FCS for football. The idea did gain some interest, but was ultimately shot down. However, there could be an opportunity to rekindle these discussions. Here is a possible scenario should it gain traction: Football FBS – Idaho, New Mexico State, Montana, Montana State, North Dakota, South Dakota, Cal Poly and Northern Arizona (8 teams). FCS – Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Portland State, UC-Davis, Sacramento State, Southern Utah and Northern Colorado (7 teams). If they can meet the academic criteria and budget criteria, and have an interest in “moving up” to FBS, they certainly would be considered. Basketball North Division – Montana, Montana State, North Dakota, South Dakota, Eastern Washington, Portland State, Idaho State, Seattle University and Idaho (9 teams). South Division – Sacramento State, Southern Utah, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Weber State, Utah Valley, Grand Canyon State, UTRGV and CSUBakersfield (9 teams). With this, most rivalries would be maintained – and some enhanced. Scheduling would be much easier, and schools would be much more similar. There would be a lot of parity in all leagues. Academic criteria under the Carnegie rating service would also be a consideration. There would also be possibilities for more revenue streams for higherlevel FCS product in terms of television, ticket pricing, NCAA/conference monies and corporate dollars. Plus, with more regional competition, there could be money savings in travel, etc.

There really isn't much here if you ask me. Basically a document detailing how the WAC attempted to cling onto FBS football. No way they find 8 schools desperate enough for FBS football to join their conference and reinstate FBS football, hence Idaho's decision to go full Big Sky.
The only point worth discussing is the suggestion that NDSU/SDSU may be invited to the MVC. I don't see it happening but don't doubt that either school, or USD for that matter, would be successful in that conference.

I think if the Summit League tournament wasn't in our backyard it'd be a no brainer. Now, I'm not so sure. The Summit League would almost have to be dissolved if it happened. Pretty unlikely though.

That's basically the main sticking point in my mind. If the SL tournament were in Tulsa or something then there wouldn't be anything to think about here. At this point I'd say UNO is more likely to go MVC than any of the Dakota schools.
