So we just should have joined the Big Sky and started to build towards FBS like that Idaho report states. Got it.
I love the MVFC and like the Summit but still think our long term destiny, and best chance for stability, lies with some sort of Dakotas, Montanas, Idahos conference.
Unless the Valley implodes on multiple levels and we look at some sort of Summit/Valley merger with an all sports football conference. Frankly, that would be one heck of a conference in the long run for all schools involved.

The Big Sky is always there as a fallback but ideally we can go full MVC once the Summit is no longer viable.

The Sky is getting pretty full and we already jilted that party once. I don't see them being interested in throwing us a lifeline if we need it.

I also think the Big Sky would take USD again. If it included a combo of SDSU and NDSU as well it would be a no brainer. I personally like the Missouri Valley Football Conference but really not a fan of some of the schools in the Summit. USD is just not like ORU, IUPUI, IPFW or Denver. They are much more similar to the Montana's and Idaho's IMO. U's and State U's.

I agree that the MVFC (and MVC) is a good conference and that USD is a bit more aligned with the Big Sky schools than ORU, Denver, IUPUI, and IPFW but at this point a basketball tournament in Sioux Falls trumps all. I say we hang onto that Summit at the Falls setup until the Summit collapses and then push for MVC membership, or failing that go into the Big Sky.

Why don't we just form our own Summit Football League?
I'm pretty sure we could hold our own. Guarantee UND and UNC would want back in.
Let's stop waiting for an invitation, and just throw our own party! Other schools can look down on us all they want, while we stomp their teams on the field.

Wow, things have escalated quickly here. No need to panic just yet. Last time I checked, some of our old great west and summit league friends are currently in the WAC, which may be the worst and most random basketball conference I have ever seen. Would assume there are 2-3 teams there that would bolt to join the summit.....if we actually wanted ANY of them.

Key words there, "if we want ANY of them". I'd rather have Mankato move up to D1 and would welcome them to the Summit than take any of those schools back, including UMKC.

New Mexico State would be a great addition but won't join us as long as football is an issue. Zero interest in every other school in the WAC.

I would probably agree with that. However, one potential issue is that by the time a school like Mankato would be eligible to compete in a tournament, who knows how much else will have changed with the revolving door that is conference realignment.

Does everyone have their 2017 SL tickets yet? Why are they on sale already and how long have they been available? Still a few seats left, all of which are directly behind the basket and at least 14 rows up. Guess I'll buy from the USD allotment again this year because a corner is better then upper deck or behind the basket. I would say the seats I had upper deck first row were WAY better than the main floor behind the basket and corners.

It's a numbers game to keep the Conference stable and secure. Douple is so concerned about the right fit this day and age when there's no such thing as stability anymore, unless you have the numbers to weather the defections...that will surely come sooner or later. Any conference is going to have it's bottom dwellers, but the top teams are vital to keep.Expansion is a good thing,if it's affordable in this age of tight budgets.
Some of the schools that belong in the AAC just to play UConn twice every year in hopes of riding their coat tails into improving their programs must have tons of excess money and very high expectations. Football is the major driver here, that's why the BE left en masse because they were destroying the BE for the teams that focused on basketball because they didn't have football.Interests come in many shapes and forms, some good, some not.Have to adapt or get left in the dust .The strong are getting stronger, the weak struggling for survival.
The Summit over all is pretty good, gradually improving,it just seems like a painstakingly slow process and anxiety happens every time a resurgence comes around of Conference re-alignment or even rumors of such.Human nature.
