I'm sure there's a better way to display all the nested replies, but... I'm working with what I've got.

Thumper had to get his 2 cents in as well.

Bringing up context with Boyle is fine. Asking about strength of schedule is fine. But it’s void of realization that while pointing the finger at another there’s 3 pointing back at you. Sometimes I think sdsu has a middle child syndrome. NDSU is constantly smacking them down, so they project their frustrations back down on us. We’ve deserved some of it since we haven’t beat them forever in football and never seem to finish them off in the SLT. Sometimes I think we have an institutional mental block because we let them get into our heads in big games. We hope to win and they expect to win.

It never ceases to amaze me why they're always so interested in what happens at USD. Why do they even care or take the time to notice. Are any of our that fans concerned about what goes on in Brookings other than what's on or in the news?

The myth of state athletic dominance is gone. USD athletics is now comprised of several established, dominant programs that regularly send teams to the post-season. Enrollment at SDSU has dropped substantially. At the same time their football games fail to draw sufficient crowds - even in ideal weather - to fill The Big Blue Empty. State college has financial issues. The stadium was financed based on the promise of capacity crowds. Without the expected gate receipts state will be forced to divert funding for other projects to ‘keep the lights on’ at the Astroturf Pasture, but given the size of its endowment and its parsimonious donor base finding other funds will be difficult. Their financial situation will restrain their investment in programs and facilities thus hampering their ability to compete with the other Dakota schools and potentially St. Thomas (not to mention all of the other Summit/MVFC programs) for recruits. Given all of this I can understand why they would feel threatened. It only follows that some would lash out after they have found themselves in the corner they currently dwell. The state college isn’t going away, but it very likely is going to spend some extended quality time in the middle of the pack. That realization is enough to send some people on the attack.

Great post! It's obvious that bunny fans turn out all their self-congratulatory fluff because of some deep rooted insecurity issues.

I think you exaggerate the drop in enrollment, and I'm really not sure any average fan would know of future funding woes. The source is insecurity, but I think it's more about the on field product. They desperately want a successful rivalry but can't even dream of competing with NDSU, so they have to compare themselves to someone else and try to demean them.

I saw it and I think Jay does a good job but he comes off as a huge homer. Just my opinion of course.

And this is...uh...a stretch. Are you a Russian bot? 😁 Please look at the SDBOR athletic funding for USD compared to SDSU. www.sdbor.edu/administrative-offices/finance-administration/annual-reports/Documents/FY18AthleticReport.pdf

Both are assigned primary beats to cover so obviously their comments are going to be biased towards wherever their work is concentrated. I think both do a good job and the coverage is what I expect given those assignments.

I think (in my head, although it’s probably the blue and yellow glasses) I give Nieman a little more slack because he played for SDSU. But I don’t follow either on Twitter. Only see replies from each.

I think (in my head, although it’s probably the blue and yellow glasses) I give Nieman a little more slack because he played for SDSU. But I don’t follow either on Twitter. Only see replies from each. Both sides expect the announcers for the other side to be unbiased when they announce a home game. The away side rarely believes that's what they get. I believe they do as good a job of it as can be expected given the circumstances. What I do find funny in all of this is the couple of State fans that started this by finding fault with the point Jay made about the improvement in the Yote defense because of who they played and who those teams were missing when they played. Yet only 5 days ago, Zim posts an analysis how the Jack defense this year may be their best ever. It may well be as I don't follow them as close as USD. But he notes 4 of the teams they played aren't strong (understatement in my red tinted shades) but the numbers are there. I really don't see a difference between Jay`s point compared to Matt`s.

I've watched Elsen call games against state, and Nieman call games against USD. Both are true professionals and leave any fandom at the door.

I've watched Elsen call games against state, and Nieman call games against USD. Both are true professionals and leave any fandom at the door. I would agree with this. The fandom on both sides reads into things that aren't there. We're all lucky to have the Midco Sports crew covering the Dakotas.
