I am pretty surprised to see 5 SDSU players on the first/second team and 0 USD players on either team. Good thing pre-season polls are worthless. I would have though Duffy and Fogg would be on either. I would bet they will on the year end voting.

The Summit League article mentions that we lose 4 starters(and Player of the Year), which I guess explains the disrespect to 2-time defending champs, and WNIT defending champs.
I don't think many of this year's starters will be lacking for playing experience, however. I think the chances for a 3-peat will be better than the poll may suggest.

I would put this poll in the lockerroom. Its good to be underrated. Its good to have a chip on your shoulder.
Good stuff.

Disrespect? Huh?
This was probably exactly what we all should have expected. SDSU is the clear preseason favorite, and IUPUI returns some nice pieces. USD will be right there in the mix I believe, but preseason, nah, 3rd is about right.

I have no problem with the ranking, just thought they would have one player on the all Summit team.

SDSU won in the NCAA, and nearly won twice, and returns the same team, I can't really argue with their pre-season position in the polls. Though, I do think we have a better than 3 in 34 chance (number 1 votes) of a 3-peat. You caught me in my "faux outrage"

I can't believe someone gave Oral Roberts a first place vote.

I can't believe someone gave Oral Roberts a first place vote. I presume coaches couldn't vote their own teams first. So maybe ORU's first place vote came from AJ?

My quick math on what we return tells a different story than 'lost 4 starters'. It look like we return ~120 minutes/game playing time out of a possible 200, or roughly 60% of minutes (vs. the 20% implied by 4 of 5 starters).
A lot of the expectation, IMO, is the expectation that Seekamp is gone, so the team will be taking a big step backwards. I'm not sure many people outside of Vermillion understood how good the other 10 players who regularly saw the court were last year. Not to mention this freshman class is loaded.

I understood that each school has 2 votes and cannot vote for their own team. It is likely 2 of the 3 votes for the Yotes came from the Jackrabbits. ORU beat WIU in the conference tourney. It could be one of the Leatherneck votes. It is puzzling to vote for ORU since there are many pieces in place for the Yotes from last year's team. Seekamp and Heemiller touched the ball a bunch, but there are a few left that can fill in at an above average level. ORU seems to have a steep hill to be at the top with either the Jackrabbits or Yotes. They have 7 freshmen and a couple of transfers to put together. They do have 3 post players from Spain of which 2 are freshmen. Coach Cussen has not shown the same ability to coach as the old guy Fink. I am not familiar with the IUPUI recruits, but I thought they lost some key players that were big minute pieces. Parkinson has shown some ability to put a team together. Vermillion should have a great arena to watch the season.

I can't believe someone gave Oral Roberts a first place vote. Meh, they return a good majority of their team last year and they added a couple of good players. Mayberry is one of the better guards in the Summit to. Preseason polls will never be unanimous and someone will also pick a dark horse team to win it like ORU this year.

How many times do the Coyotes have to finish above their preseason ranking to convince voters that they have a good program. This is the regular season poll where teams actually have to play half of their games away from home which is something that seems to favor the Coyotes recently. It's one thing to continously rank the champs below the Jacks but no one else in the Summit is in the same league as the Yotes and Jacks. ORU was so far behind the Coyotes just to begin so who is to say they can make up the large disparity let alone make up any ground at all. As the season wore on the 2nd team that USD was trotting on the floor was good enough to finish at least 2nd place in the conference by themselves. At the end of the year the reserves barely dropped off at all. Abigail Fogg made one of the biggest in season improvements I have ever seen from a player. She became not only good but had stretches of dominance. I would like to see what league these pollsters were watching because Fogg is a 2nd team all conference at worst and I challenge anyone to find 3 bigs better than her in the league. Her game got better and better and she was a big reason that the Coyotes beat Florida Atlantic. She had some clutch hoops at crucial times.

I think this poll is about right. Obviously you could make a strong argument for the yotes to be 2nd. I thought it was more suprising the USD men were picked 7th. I would be absolutely shocked if we finish 7th or lower on the mens side. Also, Flack not being on that list is a kick in the beans.

Duffy seemed to be on her way to that status as a shooting guard in the early part of the season, too. I can't remember what kind of injury she had, but didn't seem like the same player after it.
