Great ovation for the WNIT championship team at the D-Days game - well deserved. Also a nice gesture that Amy came to town for the event.
I saw Duffy was in a boot & on crutches - anyone know what the story is there?

Broken leg. Think it's the fibula.

Broken leg. Think it's the fibula. Umm. Am I the only one who thinks this is a big deal? Is she done for the season?

I have no idea what the prognosis is but it has to be about an 8-week recovery time injury if a broken fibula is accurate. Best case scenario would seem to me that she's back as the conference schedule gets going. Worst case? I think preparing for her to miss the season makes at least some sense.

Hopefully she is back by conference time. Would she be able to get a medical red-shirt if she does happen to miss the season? I was actually looking forward to seeing the Duffy sisters on the court together.

The issue is she has already burned a year in her "5 year clock" with the redshirt year when she transferred. It seems like you can get granted a 6th year more often than not in these cases, but who knows with the NCAA. (Ed Davis of Michigan State Football a recent example) Shes been in the boot for a few weeks now so would think she will be back around christmas unless the injury is more severe than we know.

That's what most 6th year redshirts are I always thought, other than a grad school student athlete (she might have graduated by then too,and want to go on further with her education) ,most are of the medical variety where the student athlete was robbed of a year of their eligibility, due to injury.Usually they are granted....usually.Here's hoping the Duffy sisters play together yet for a whole season.I don't think Caitlin has applied for and used a medical redshirt ,just the one redshirt year she had to use while sitting out to comply with the transfer rule.

I don't have any idea on medical redshirts, recovery time or anything else. And I'm pretty sure she just broke it at practice less than a week ago. There may be some confusion on the boot because she had the foot injury at the end of last season that she was still recovering from fairly recently.

In order to be considered for a 6th year she would have had to miss significant time due to injury in 2 seasons.

A player may receive a medical redshirt if they suffer a season-ending injury during the first half of the season and while competing in less than 30% of the team's total games that season. See Case Keenum: www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/case-keenum-1.html . Redshirted in 2006, played in every single game in 2007, 2008, 2009, injured in third game of 2010, granted sixth year and played in 2011. Only missed playing time due to injury during one season.

Does her transfer-year redshirt affect that at all?

Yup, there are several cases out there like this. I am assuming a transfer redshirt and a freshmen redshirt year count the same in the eyes of the NCAA but again, their rulings are not always consistent. Seems like she would have a strong case if it were to come to that.

Yes, she would qualify as a medical redshirt except she used her rs sitting out a year because of transferring, right? Keenum was granted a 6th year because Houston argued his redshirt year wasn't voluntary because he had a broken collar bone. I like the obscure example, tho.

I believe since she transferred it would be tough to get a 6th year of eligibility.

Hopefully it's not too bad and we won't have to worry about this conversation.
