So it's time to look foward to another year of women's basketball. It has been a long time since a Coyote Women's team hasn't been a good team. I don't expect that trend to change this year either. Of course Amy Williams is a mammoth loss but life goes on and time to move forward once again. How can one not think of that big WNIT run when thinking about the start of this year. There is some experience coming back and I don't think the starters will be an issue. Depth might be the biggest question mark. It was possibly as good as it has ever been last year at USD. I think the Coyotes last year could have produced two top 5 Summit teams last year with their depth.
So the Dawn Plitzuweit era begins and the intro press conference for the season is here www.goyotes.com/news/2016/11/2/mens-basketball-inside-2016-17-coyote-basketball-media-day.aspx?path=mbball
I liked the way that Coach P talked when discussing the upcoming team. She mentioned toughness and togetherness as two big words that will be used as a mantra going forward. It sounds like some things may change a bit under her and the main thing seemed to be that they are going to get out and run and try to create easy baskets. She also stresses versatility with many players doing many different things. It sounded like for both the men and women that the international trips couldn't have been much better timed. Dawn mentions that the new comers on the team have already improved quite a bit.
The Yotes open at the Pentagon on Friday November 11th against SIU-Edwardsville and then the home opener on the 13th against Stephen F Austin. I would think a 2-0 start is very possible.
