The game deserves it's own thread. Without doing much research on this one I will take my uneducated guess and pick the Coyotes to win 79-61. Go Yotes!

I love the idea that we can make a call without any basis for it whatsoever. Fun stuff. So I will be consistent. USD 93 SIUE 45 with Trimboli hitting 11 three's. (Replace with McKeever if Trimboli doesn't play)

It will be fun to see how the new comers do tonight and how much depth the team can develop. It sounds like Dawn would like a deep bench with frequent subs as the team will probably be running their arses off in her system. That would have worked great last season with the incredible depth that was had.

My thoughts at the half:
Coyotes up 30-25 but had a slow start. Our defense is stifling! Especially fogg. She's a wall. On offense we were cold from the arc. Allison Arens is a SLASHER! Need to get fog and the forwards under the basket. Edwards vile is scrappy and hitting their 3s

Coyotes win 75-68. It was one of those first game of the season performances for both teams. The execution aspect was a little rough. The Coyotes missed roughly their first 10 three pointers before finally connecting. It was a scrappy performance and when Dawn says she wants to see toughness I saw it from the team tonight. Elder Duffy and Timboli were and will be missed. The game was within one possession for most of the first half until the Coyotes took a 5 point lead at the break. The Yotes really stretched it out for awhile in the 3rd quarter and led by as much as about 18 points. SIU-Edwardsville did claw their way back and got within 3 in the last couple of minutes. Good effort performance despite a bit rough around the edges.
Allison Arens looks very good out their and seems to be the kind of player that might be able to be one of those players that might take some big shots in crucial moments. She has a good knack to get to the basketball and does it impressively. She had 28 tonight. Nothing against Bridget but it certainly looks as if the junior Arens is probably going to be the better player.
Ciara Duffy looked good in her debut. She has a nice scoring touch and provides good overall play otherwise.
Abby Fogg looked ok especially on defense. For whatever reason she only played 18 minutes.
Liveringhouse for whatever reason only got 5 minutes. She is a good interior player but her PT was limited
McKeever played a robust 24 minutes in her debut. She didn't look for her shot much but she is a big time scorer in high school so that should come with time. She fouled out at the end but seemed to hold her own throughout the game. She ended up with 3 thefts.
Jaycee Bradley I have always kind of liked. She is going to be one of the sharp shooters on the team.

There's going to be some major growing pains with all the new faces, but my biggest observation: we are 1-0.
Go Yotes!

Listened on the radio. Any observations from anyone at the game? About how big was the crowd? Obviously some very good individual performances which included Duffy as a true freshman. Watched her play her in Rapid--she's a talent! I agree with kiyoat that sounded like we need to get our bigs more involved shooting under the basket.

Very impressed with the younger Arens, she is poised for a huge step forward this year.

Allison Arens looked great last night. Played with a ton of confidence that we didn't see in her last year. Great win for the first game.
The crowd was ridiculous. My guess was there were maybe 250 people there. Good to see all our alumni from Sioux Falls show up.

You mean on a Friday night with a men's game on tv, a volleyball game, a football game on Saturday another volleyball game, high school state championships and a BB doubleheader on Sunday? Yeah, good call. Make it another Sioux Falls thing...

I would guess 500-550. *edit: I looked it up. 521 official attendance www.goyotes.com/boxscore.aspx?path=wbball&id=3362Not that it was great, but with the Sioux Falls alumni I would guess that many of us that don't follow it closely may not have even known about the game. I wish there was a little more publicity about the game. Oh well.

Well if anyone wants to be critical of Sioux Falls fans going to Vermillion for games than we should be equally critical of Vermillion fans not showing up for this game. It would be nice if the WNIT run would have had a little more of a nice effect for the opener in Sioux Falls but I guess not. We will see what the attendance will be at the home opener double header. If it isn't above 3,000 than attendance will still be an issue regardless of the new arena. There really is no reason why the home opener should not draw at least 3,000.

Let's not forget that Vermillion and USD are hosting 11 contests (7 hs fb, 2 vb, 1 wbb and 1 mbb) Thursday thru Sunday of this week at the Dome and SCSC. Putting a real stretch on the entertainment dollar....
Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards

Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards Generally I would agree but the High School Football attendees shouldn't have much of a negative or a positive effect on the attendance for the Sunday. Most everyone will be out of town by then. The arena opener is special and shouldn't really be effected as much by the other events going on. There should be a given amount of fans that will want to be at the double header that wouldn't normally come to a regular non conference double header. I am disappointed that the basketball openers couldn't be on a Saturday instead of a Sunday. The NFL alone will take some of the Sunday crowd. I hate having to miss the Vikings game to be at the double header but I now don't feel so bad since my favorite NFL has turned to trash.
