Stephen F. Austin is the test subject.
I am not sure how good the Southland Conference is but they were a good team in that conference last year. They were 18-12 overall and 12-6 in their conference. I would guess that this should be a stiffer challenge then the Cougars were on Friday. This will be the first game of the year for SFA.
I think this will be a good one. I will take the Coyotes 73-71 with SFA missing the tying shot at the buzzer.

Sounds like SFA is a team that likes to run so it should be an exciting, fast-paced game.

Halftime Yotes 38 SFA 31
Yote women down by as much as 7 pts in first half, rallied to a 7 pt lead at halftime. They play with some fire. Freshman Madison McKeever has added true spark to the defense and can play some bball. This team is gonna be fun to watch develop throughout the season.

SFA did not score after the 4:35 mark. Yotes with a 13-0 run to end the half.

Allison Arens again with a fantastic game. She is a fun kid to watch. McKeever is another kid who will be huge for us this year. He defensive intensity is off the charts and I think one she knocks down a few more shots she will look to score a little more as well.

If there was any question that I had before this weekend about Coach Plitzuweit that doubt is absolutely gone. I was so damn impressed with how the Coyotes played this weekend especially Sunday for the home opener. These girls play in that Coyote jersey like it is a badge of honor to wear it. They are like 40 minutes of fury. I thought people were under rating the Coyotes going into this season and maybe I was being a bit too optimistic with that outlook but if these first two games are any indication we have a very bright future with this program. We have 5 starters gone and another 2 key contributors out with injury so what does Dawn do but go 10 deep on the bench with a roster that is supposed to be not very deep. How does that happen? That is incredible. With the players that played I couldn't not single out one player that I could say that she didn't belong on this team or didn't buy in, in some way to the team. They all played the part.
When I really smiled today was when the Coyotes had just got done with a pretty nice run to go up double digits then had maybe a couple of things that they might not have done well. Dawn was on the bench during a time out with the most intense conversation with her team that she was turning red. She was pretty hot and has a high expectation with her team and wants everything to go right. She was coaching to the very end. She was lecturing her team with just a few seconds left in a game that had already been decided. I thought great job coach. It shows me a lot and will show the team that she is there for them and wants to make sure they play it out the right way until the very end. She's got some of that "Amy" intensity in her. She will fight for this team and this team will fight for her.
She is getting back to the roots that pulled this program out of the doldrums of the 1990's and that is a defense first attitude. The Coyotes have energy to burn then they play a lot of players and can afford to play a higher intensity game when they know the players are going to get more breathers.
I don't understand how we can only draw at most 1,500 (maybe only 1,000) for the SCSC opener. It truly takes an act of god to get people motivated for Coyote basketball. For those that were there they did a very nice job of showing the appreciation for the guts that this team displays on the court. I know SFA is maybe just kind of a good team and there will be many tough battles ahead but Dawn is laying the foundation right now. She preaches toughness and togetherness and that is exactly the kind of a vibe that the team gives off. They play such good team ball. I think the men could learn a few things from the way they play the game.

McKeever's high arching triple at the horn to end the third quarter was my favorite part of the whole day. I really like her game. I think she is the antithesis of the whole team. I expected her to be a good scorer coming out of high school. What I am impressed by is her all around game especially defensively. I am glad she decided to stay the course and still come to USD. We are probably lucky to have her for 4 years.

I watched the game on ESPN,SFA is a very good team. The Yotes are better.I think the Summit race will once again come down to the two SD schools, with IUPUI playing the spoiler role.USD has the deeper bench and Fogg (?) has never looked so good, she's going to be a force to reckon with, everyone's shown improvement and are very good.Should be an excellent season for the Yotes from what I've seen so far. Both teams are highly skilled and move the ball well.I'm a SD lifetime resident who is kind of rare in that I like and cheer for both SD teams, just that I became a jackrabbit fan first and have loyalty there.Wish the Yotes well.

Allison Arens has impressed me so far this year. She has taken a more aggressive approach and is a great scorer. When she got in last year she did not impress me too much. She has really matured from year 1 and hope she continues to improve.

As a freshman she didn't look anything near what she became, which was a pretty dang good player
