The progress has been slow this year but it appears the team is still progressing forward and not taking any steps back, at least not yet. The Yotes were oh so close to 3-0 in the Summit so far. It is certainly acceptable to take the 2-1 record and move on. I don't think 1 month ago and maybe even 2 weeks ago do the Coyotes win at Denver, Flack or not. So I think everyone can be reasonable happy how the Summit season has started so far.
There is some good news and bad news ahead. The bad news first.
The Coyotes from 2/1/17 thru 2/8/17 is the gauntlet.
at Omaha
at NDSU
at Fort Wayne
Ouch
But first the good news and that is 5 of the next 6 at the SCSC with what will be slightly increasing and louder crowds as we go.
vs IUPUI - If the Coyotes play well they can certainly win the game
vs NDSU - This could very well be a game for first place in the conference
vs Fort Wayne - they are good but I believe their stock has dropped just a hair. It will take a good performance but not impossible
at Oral Roberts - they started out very poorly and then really got it together but then lost at Denver
vs Western Illinois - Gotta get this one but a game that suddenly appears more difficult
vs Denver - The rematch but gotta like the chance at home, last time they hosted the Pioneers it was ugly
This stretch is where the team really needs to make hay. This is no time to pull off the throttle. The Coyotes have gotten through the start and already picked up their first road win. I am perhaps getting a bit greedy but with the gauntlet coming in early february it would be great to try to get through this stretch 5-1. They do that and the Coyotes are a legit factor in the Summit race heading into the stretch. If they hold serve at home 5 wins is obviously guaranteed.
The Denver win really sets things up nicely for the Yotes going forward.
